Lost Planet 2 Co-Op is a bit like Shadow of the Colossus

Details are beginning to trickle out today about Lost Planet 2 from Capcom.  The current Xbox 360 exclusive features a four player co-op mode that numerous members of the media got to check out last week at Capcom's Captivate event.

Kotaku is bringing on the detail that big monsters play a huge role in the game as players not only work together with their teammates to bring it down from the outside, but the inside too.  It's a bit like Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2, but slightly more brutal and with friends.  This provides some interesting possibilities to the game's four player co-op mode.

Three of the players work on the creature from all sides while the fourth player, the one whose camera we are watching, works his way up the back of the creature. As the ground attack continues, the player starts hacking at the spikes on the creature's back. The size of the creature, the simultaneous attacks happening from the ground, the constantly swaying field of grass, all combine to deliver a cinematic, epic moment in the game.

Sounds like that could be cool, but then there's the whole "inside" thing.

The developer climbs down the creatures back, moving around its giant feet to position himself in front of the creature. Then he jumps in its mouth and appears inside the creature. Inside this giant frog the player is surrounded by fluids and flesh. As he walks down what must be a throat you can see organs pulsating in the distance, beyond rows of bones, perhaps a rib cage. It's an entire organic level.;

It really sounds like Capcom is stepping up their game for the Lost Planet sequel.  Above the four player co-op mode, we hear there's tons of great character customization in the game, all the better for showing yourself off to your teammates.

Sounds a lot like some Riftworm action to me. They mentioned Gears of War a few times in the OXM article too.

Now if they can just manage to include the proper split-screen I will be all set.

After reading a magazine article on it, I am tempted to move this to the Possible Co-op Buy List which joins Borderlands, Operation Flashpoint, & Modern Warfare 2 as my co-op buy of the year.

I'd want to be the guy to go into the beast's stomach and kill it!
