To Gib, Or Not to Gib, that is the Borderlands 2 Question

Borderlands 2 will have an easy to use gore filter, if you want

When the original Borderlands was released, umbrella sales went through the roof.  It was the only way that people could protect themselves from the shower of blood and limbs in the game.  Personally, I like my rain filled with meaty chunks, but others may not.  Therefore, news that Borderlands 2 will have a gore filter will be music to their still attached ears.

The official Gearbox Community page posted the news about an easy to implement gore filter, but also the fact that this allows them to release the game uncut in traditionally more conservative regions:

We're happy to announce that Borderlands 2 will be uncut all over the world!

Some fans will remember that the first Borderlands game was a bit toned down in certain territories compared to the rest of the world. No longer! Do you live in Germany? Australia? Bandits will be just as likely to explode into bloody chunks of awesomeness as they will be in Canada or England (which is to say: very likely.)

Or, maybe you’re the type who abhors violence. You’re in luck – we’ve implemented a Gore Toggle option. With a single button press, you can turn Borderlands a less violent experience!

With Borderlands 2's September 18th release date rapidly approaching, Co-Optimus are as giddy as a bunch of school girls waiting to see the latest generic boy band.  The game features an awesome level of co-op compatibility; 2 player local, 4 player online, or a combination of both.  Put us all down for limb proof raincoats when the time comes.

Oh thank god - I won't be forced to import the game from Austria yet again, because Germany insists on their pointless censorship of violence.

The more options, the better for everyone. If there is excessive profanity I like OPTIONAL filters for those too.

I'm with Blakepro here. I loved Borderlands and I'm quite sure I'll play the snot out of Borderlands 2, but I do wish they'd have an optional filter for the language. I don't swear, it's just not something I'm into, so it's kind of difficult to communicate with my team when a bada** anything shows up.

Is the filter going to actually rename enemies, or just tone down the dialogue???

(And if it does rename enemies, how's it going to handle people playing together who have different settings? If I see a Bada** something-or-other onscreen and it's called something else for you, how are we going to know what we're each talking about?)

I read an interview with the devs that said something along the lines that their fatalities were being toned down across the board. In particular they referenced the electricity eye-popping & acid were gone. If this is reality, then no wonder they were able to keep the "gore" across all versions of the game as it is much more toned down then the original.

ESRB Notice: Game experience may change during online play.

A valid question there, and one I wouldn't be surprised to learn didn't cross Gearbox's collective mind. If it was me, I'd stick everyone with the text filter if anyone has it on. Seems like a minor enough annoyance for the sailor-mouthed heathens, and a handy way to advise courteous gamers to watch their own tongues. But I bet it's going to give different players different names, if it filters the text at all.

That is halarious. Looking forward to seeing all the gore. The reason that option exists is nobody plays that game anymore but a bucnh of no talent modding little kids. I know cuz I still play it a bucnh of can't find any one of value to play with.
That and parents nowadays are buying violent video games for their kids with no regard to the content whatsoever. And then they go and play online and hear all kinds of stuff that they shouldn't be hearing cuz they're playing agame that's higher than their age rating.
