    NOTICE TO ALL PERSONNEL:

As of July 18th, 2010, our sidearm allowance will be decreased 15%. Please choose wisely.

    From the desk of
    Col. William Redbot

I often wonder how private military contractors (PMCs) allot resources to their soldiers employees...do they get an allowance? Do they get equipment issued? Leased? How does one ensure that they are properly outfitted before running headlong into potential hazards of the job?

In the worlds of gaming, you sometimes get to choose from a select number of weapons. Sometimes you have to qualify for (unlock) them in succession; sometimes you have to earn credit for them. In some cases, you have a full arsenal for your perusal. In almost every case, you have to choose wisely.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 does an incredible job of giving the player as much versatility as possible; for this reason it remains my favorite co-op game and subject of much talking and typing. Not only can you develop your character's appearance for the sake of appearances, but some of your decisions affect your movement and resistance to attack. Once you've finally chosen your armor and clothing, you need to make sure that you're packing enough offensive force to overpower your enemies' configurations.

This, my co-op friends, is a Sig Sauer P226 Combat. It's a full-frame 9mm handgun with a single/double action trigger and external hammer. Needless to say, I'm particularly fond of this firearm, which I just purchased Saturday. In my opinion, this handgun is the standard for handsome and effective sidearms: Jack Bauer (TV series 24) and Michael Westen (TV series Burn Notice) carry the compact versions P229 and P228, respectively...and yet, you'd be hard-pressed to find it featured in a video game. In fact -- to my knowledge -- the only game of the current generation that includes this popular government-issued piece is Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. It's a crying shame.

What does all this have to do with the Battlefield Report? Well, to be honest: not a whole lot. I'm just getting you in the mood for some gun love.

I think pistols and knives are criminally under used in all modern games. Knives sometimes get one-hit stealth kills, sure, but how many FPS games have you played (in single-player especially) without ever using your pistol?? Yet again I'll call for a more realistic game where you rarely find firearms of any sort, and let the pistol be awesome once again.

I've been wanting to pick this game up for quite some time. Does anybody know if it will allow system-link AND split-screen (i.e. 2 Xboxes, 4 players)?

i used to play action quake 2 with knives all the time. people underestimate the power of being stealthy instead of guns blazing all the time. i've always liked pistols a lot too but most games only give you one option with really sucks.

i've been tempted to get R6V2 as well but i don't know how much we'd play it. can you do split-screen online?

Pistols are fun. Especially the one in Halo Combat Evolved.

The pistol that took out a thousand grunts and saved a galaxy from total destruction.

I almost always used the pistol in the original UT.

haha.. so true. and it looks like we'll get a second run with it in ODST

Offline splitscreen only, unfortunately. System link is treated like an online game.

The RV Vegas games a pretty darn good shooters.

Nothing cooler than clearing a room by having a buddy break in from the opposite side not giving the opposition any time to react.

Awesome co-op stuff.

Yeah, and the story mode offers plenty of opportunities for scenarios like that. My favorite is coming through a window via rappel while my brother enters from the hall door.

The pistols in the Vegas games were always a favorite of mine. I liked using them for style reasons if nothing else.

...which is why I'm buying a copy for my friend. It's just that good.

I really enjoyed the game for me, but it just got to repetitive for my taste in the story-mode and terrorist hunt was fun, but I'd prefer less random spawning and a more slower advance through the level, so that you are always fighting enemies ahead of you.

I hate the feeling that I'll clear out a house, but apparently there was some guy hiding in a closet (no closets in actual game), who only came out cause he stopped hearing his buddies screaming in pain.

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
Part of me wants to crop the second picture you took, and add text. Something simple, like "Oh geez. . ." It's got the perfect f
BORDERLANDS! Hopefully finish my first playthrough! I'm on "The Final Piece" but I'll probably do side quests as well.
