Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants Is Heading to Consoles and PC

The "lost" TMNT arcade game will get an enhanced home version in April.

Arcades might have dwindled in the United States, but they still exist. Companies like Raw Thrills even make new arcade games such as 2017's TMNT arcade game. Seven years later, Game Mill is releasing that game onto consoles and PC as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants. It will support 4-player local co-op, and it's due in late April.

Wrath of the Mutants features:

  • Double the Mayhem: Fight your way through six stages and 13 boss battles, including three all-new stages and six new boss battles not present in the original arcade release.
  • Play as the Four Turtles: Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey, voiced by the talents of the 2012 TMNT series (Seth Green, Sean Astin, Rob Paulsen, Greg Cipes), are ready to fight against the evil Foot Clan!
  • Unleash Turtle Power: Use special super attacks unique to each Turtle to devastate waves of enemies and find tokens to summon mutant backup to help clear your foes.
  • Team Up in Local Co-op: Play with your friends in four-player local couch co-op.

TMNT Wrath of the Mutants

This TMNT is a fairly standard 3D beat 'em up based on the 2012 animated series. That series is often praised for its storytelling and humor, though I must point out that the enemy mutant designs are generally quite ugly. The arcade game mixes some mechanics from previous games, such as throwing Foot Soldiers towards the screen, with new elements like flashy special moves. The home port promises new levels and bosses, including Krang from the 1987 TMNT animated series.

The only downside that we can see about Wrath of the Mutants is that it won't include online co-op. The TMNT license is popular enough to warrant online multiplayer, and the smash hit TMNT: Shredder's Revenge includes the feature. Still, it will be great to finally have a chance to play Raw Thrills' TMNT at home, even without online co-op.

TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam on April 23. It will sell for $29.99. Best Buy has physical preorders open for Xbox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch.

In other TMNT game news, Outright Games also has a Turtles game in the works: TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, but no details have been revealed yet. THQ Nordic also has a game based on TMNT: The Last Ronin, a graphic novel set in a dark future, in development, but that game will likely be single-player.
