This Week in Co-Op: Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 (again)

I have stated many times my love of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2. It's a great game for both single player and cooperative experiences. Indeed, I've had Geometry Wars RE 2 as my co-op game of the week once before. However, until recently, I've not dumped a large amount of time into the game. I've played it for small bursts, but not really enough to truly appreciate it. Well fortunately I had a dull week and a roommate willing to try some Geometry Wars.

Who Needs Co-Op in Golden Axe: Beast Rider? We Do!

Sometimes, when a game DOESN'T have co-op, it's news worthy.  That's certainly the case for the remake/reimagining of one of our favorite co-op classics, Golden Axe.  Released next month, Golden Axe: Beast Rider will offer only a single player campaign.  That's right, no co-op mode, or any multiplayer features are available at all.  To make things worse, you can't even choose among the original three heroes; instead, the player will take on the role of Tyris Flare, only.  (To their credit, the developers promise that the other two heroes from the original will be featured in the story).  Of course, Tyris is wearing her obviously marketable chain mail bikini, pushing the borders of appropriateness.  This is, I suppose, reminiscient of the first Golden Axe.  Screenshots and videos indicate that the game is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia, including beast riding (duh), potion gnomes, and even Black Adder, the big baddie himself.  It's too bad they missed the most important aspect: playing through with a friend.  Check this quote from Sean Ratcliffe, VP of Marketing at Sega:

There are those that said this day would never come,  and to those Peter Molyneaux says - "Nah nah nah nah na naaaaaaaaaaaaa."  That's right, Fable 2 has gone gold after years in development, and much to everyone's surprise this game hasn't been completely overhyped like its baby brother.

The Rock Band series is a perennial favorite here at Co-Optimus.  You would think that now that the second game has launched for the 360, news would die down a little.  However, that hasn't been the case.  The latest development is the announcement of a total revamp of RockBand.com.  Among the new features are a new blog and updated song information pages which promise to give new background information and gameply tips for the hundreds of songs available in Rock Band.

Halo 3 Achievements Reveal "Mythic" Map Pack and 750 Gamerscore

There must be something in the air this morning, because all I can smell are achievements.  The latest achievements to be confirmed are a fairly large set for Halo 3 bringing to light the previously rumored "Mythic" Map Pack.  While it's unknown whether or these are single or multiplayer maps, we are going to lean towards Single Player and Co-Op Maps due to the existence of new skulls.
