The Simpsons Arcade Coming to PSN 7th Feb - Free for PS Plus Members

Du-du-DU-du-Du-DU The Simpsons (Arcade coming to PSN 7th Feb)

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

The titles are rolling on yet another episode of The Simpsons, but this time it is not one of the tired antics of the past few years, but a classic from the past; The Simpsons Arcade. Co-Optimus already dropped the news that The Simpsons Arcade was coming to PSN and XBLA, but Sony have thrown in an extra bonus. If you are a member of the Playstation Plus scheme you can download the game for free from the 7th February. As for owners of Microsoft's gaming behemoth - no news yet on a release or pricing.

Alongside The Simpsons Arcade, PS Plus members are getting a bumper crop of retro titles for free this February, including; Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2 and Golden Axe. The Simpsons Arcade is a classic 4 player co-op side scrolling beat-em-up that will feature the original game in both US and Japanese forms.  There will also be a new survival mode, if this is survival of the fattest, my money is on Comic Book Guy.

The below offers are for US PSN, but similar offers are planned for PAL regions - check out the market place of your local region.

This is 100% awesome sauce. Not only is the game releasing next week, but I'm getting it on the cheaps thanks to PS+.

And I wouldn't call PS+ a "scheme." I spent $50 to renew a year of it in November and since then I've gotten Jurassic Park for free($30), will get Simpsons for free ($10) and have gotten discounts on The Heist ($10 off), Dungeon Defenders ($5 off) and Renegade Ops ($5 off). So in less than two months the program has already paid for itself in terms of free content and sweet discounts. There is a lot of shovelware that gets tossed at PS+ users (especially all those lame Minis games) but there is enough serious content to give any gamer his money back several times over.

Heartily agreed. And on top of that, the cloud backup and automatic game save backup features are pretty sweet, too.

Hope it comes to XBLA the same week!

BTW I don't think Sam intended scheme to have a negative connotation. He meant 'plan or system.'

I just wanted to take the opportunity to once again state how awesome the PS+ system is. I think a lot of people think it's lame because you have no guarantee on what you're getting a year in advance, and that there are a lot of crud games you get, but there is more than enough awesome content that it offers a huge return on investment. Being the huge Simpsons fan that I am, I would have bought this day one regardless of the price, but the fact that they are giving it away for free on release day is pure awesome.

I would assume it's coming to XBLA that same week, seeing how it was announced for only the 360 initially and assumed that it would make it's way to PSN just like X-Men did.

The term scheme has no negative connotations, just means something you sign up for e.g. life insurance scheme. Perhaps its a UKism?

If I played my PS3 more I would certainly jump on the Plus membership, but I use it as much for BluRay and iPlayers as anything else.

In the U.S. the word would be Plan or Program. "Scheme" would imply treachery. As in "Ponzi Scheme" or "Pyramid Scheme".

It's always interesting to learn about a word in the same language that has a different meaning in another part of the world.

I almost started a fist fight with half of London when a guy asked me if I was smoking "American fags".

That guy probably was taking the pizz, unless he was a proper Cockney. I have not heard the term in years!

Simpsons Arcade AND FFV free? Hell yeah. I'm getting both versions of Simpsons though; to me it's worth $10 to finally have it on a console.

I will definitely pick it up on XBLA if there ever happens to be a sale on it. For the time being I'll stick with the PSN version.
