Here in the UK the sun has finally come out and a summer to remember is just around the corner. June promises to be a good one this year; a four day weekend for the Queen's Jubilee, a European Cup to look forward to, the Olympic Games on home turf and Babel Rising finally comes out on PSN and XBLA.
Who is the Ultimate Warrior? For many it will be the former WWF star with that namesake. However, in my opinion a truly powerful fighter is unlikely to be covered in tassels and face paint, whooping at his enemies. Give me the Barbarian from Golden Axe any day. The Warrior character in Realms of Ancient War (RAW) follows in these barbarian footsteps. A new trailer highlights his belief that what you can't say with flowers, say with a sword. Check out the trailer for some in game footage of this 2 player local drop in co-op dungeon crawler, due some time later this year on PSN and XBLA. It is certainly looking like potentially one of the best the genre has to offer.
A new Rock Band game is on the way; apparently, reports of the death of the music game genre were greatly exaggerated. The latest entry into the series, though, is a drastic departure from form. You won't need any plastic instruments to play it, and, sadly, co-op is gone, as well.
There are many cultural differences between America and the UK. You say tomato, I speak properly, but there is no need to call the whole thing off. In fact, as a Brit I am willing to embrace any obscure US based phenomenon if it means more co-op gaming. This is the case with World Gone Sour an upcoming local 2 player co-op based on the Sour Patch Kids IP I have never heard of. The game is coming to PSN on the 10th April ($4.99) and XBLA on the 11th (400MSPs). Check out the new story trailer and screens.
Yep, looks like Sega will need to think of yet another way to re-invent the Blue Blur, as they have decided to possibly halt Sonic the Hedgehog 4 episodes indefinitely.
"Dundun dun derr, dun dun dun dun derder." The Sonic games have the type of music that will haunt me to my grave. The recent revamp, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, may have had the music, but did not have the co-op gameplay of Sonic 2. This is being rectified in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, according to the Xbox marketplace; they mention 2 player co-op both offline and online. Who could this second character be? Big the Cat? Of course not, it’s Tails - check out the latest gameplay trailer to see the speedy duo back in action.
If you’re not familiar with the original, Shank 2 is a 2-D character action game that relies on guns, blood, and revenge to get the message across. It comes out at a time where there is a lack of stylistic action games, but is both a blessing and a curse, as it suffers from going too heavy on the style and not providing you with enough of a game.
The tower defense genre is a crowded one, but variations on that theme can hit with great success, such as Co-Optimus favorite Dungeon Defenders, Orcs Must Die, and last year's FPS twist on the genre, Sanctum.
The titles are rolling on yet another episode of The Simpsons, but this time it is not one of the tired antics of the past few years, but a classic from the past; The Simpsons Arcade. Co-Optimus already dropped the news that The Simpsons Arcade was coming to PSN and XBLA, but Sony have thrown in an extra bonus. If you are a member of the Playstation Plus scheme you can download the game for free from the 7th February. As for owners of Microsoft's gaming behemoth - no news yet on a release or pricing.
If you like you games part trippy and part hallucinogenic; you may already own PixelJunk Eden on PSN. This two player co-op title is now swinging its way from Sony over to Steam. The PC version will include the full PSN experience, but also the additional Encore content pack. The game will cost $9.99 and does not require you to don a Grimp suit (the name of the in-game heroes).
Another quirky platforming game with great artwork has made its way onto the download market, but this time it has co-op throughout. ScaryGirl could be a very pleasant co-op experience, but are its flaws far scarier than first meets the eye?
It's been a long time since we've had a proper NFL Blitz game, and we couldn't be more excited. Will a change in developers help or hinder this classic franchise?
When we first mentioned Orc Attack last week, some readers took issue with the upcoming brawler's abundance of potty humor. From the character names (Lord Poop), to the main characters' burping and farting attacks, Orc Attack certainly includes a lot more 'gas and crass' than other games. Just watch the trailer (included after the break) and you'll hear what I mean. UK developer Casual Brothers is not deaf to player concerns, and so they've kindly explained the importance of Orc Attack's potty humor to Co-Optimus. Plus we've dug up some info on the game's promising multiplayer features.
The downloadable zombie game market is packed to the undead gills already. Does All Zombies Must Die offer something different make it worth buying?
