Halo 4's Spartan Ops Stated to Add 12 Hours of Gameplay Alone

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

Although new Halo 4 info is sort of scarce during the aftermath of E3 2012’s showcase, Microsoft has quietly revealed a number of Halo 4’s aspects within a retailer information portal.

Microsoft ExpertZone (a website that provides video game info intended for retail staff) displayed a new quiz on Halo 4. Among the other aspects of the game described in the quiz (you can check the rest out for yourself on the website), what got our attention here at Co-Optimus was (obviously) the co-op info, which described the “Spartan Ops” aspects of Halo 4. While we continue to wait on more details on Halo 4 in the coming weeks, take a quick look at the picture yourself, courtesy of Little English Halo Blog (Trust us: you don’t have to be an employee of Gamestop to look at this info):

In the description, it tells us that within Spartan Ops there will be, “50 missions spread over 10 weeks,” and, “Improves support to create, organize, and track groups.” Might they be referring to Halo clans of some sort? Not only that, but these co-op missions will take part in “seasons”, where players can only take on certain missions during a selected timespan. Season 1, will be absolutely free to play, so don’t worry about buying extra co-op content right out of the box. What’s more is that it states that the co-op gameplay alone will add up to 12 hours to Halo 4; quite the statement, we might add.

Halo 4 is scheduled for a Xbox 360 release on November 6th of this year.

'Not only that, but these co-op missions will take part in %u201Cseasons%u201D, where players can only take on certain missions during a selected timespan.'

Does this sound like a horrible idea to anyone else?

It would be fine, if each season was a permanent download, but somehow I doubt that's the case. I know this will require us to connect each day to access the daily (Or whatever timespan they use) allotted mission.

I don't like the idea of tying myself up to an online service where I risk losing access further down the line. Hell, not being able to play the level I want any given day would be annoying enough. I just want to be able to play the levels I want at my own leisure.

Point is I don't see why this needs to be set up like this, nor any benefit for end users for it being so. The sole purpose of this seems to be to tie us up to play for a longer time than we otherwise would. I'd prefer it if the quality of the game achieved that, rather than manipulation like this.

I have an uneasy feeling about this too... What was that about the first Season being free? Is this something that's been talked about that I missed? Are games moving to have seasons where we all pay to take part in the new season?

I heard on a podcast that the missions will be like TV show in that they will expire and periodically re-run. I'd much rather just have firefight mode.

that is silly... it should at least give the user the option to permanently install it on your hard-drive.. and heck, if they want money for it, even allow people to buy it like a tv season.. I guess we'll see exactly how it works when more info comes out..

Sounds like something that will require xbox gold (which is obviously not free). That doesn't bode well for someone like me that plays halo system link with four silver accounts.

I think the idea is to give it artificial longevity. By limiting us to only certain missions, they keep their player base coming back for content that appears fresh since it isn't always available.

Is there an online pass also?

I am very excited for this game... however... I enjoy the firefight mode offline and online. I am a bit worried about whether these Spartan Ops will be a permanent download for me to play whenever I want. I sincerely hope that will be an option or the norm. I would even be willing to pay for it...

So I guess it will add 12 hrs cumulatively? I wonder what that bodes for a short time frame - say, four days?
