The Top 5 Most Anticipated Co-Op Games This Fall

Editorial
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

Every year, usually beginning around September, the games industry starts a process in which it releases as many games in three months, as it does for the other nine in a year.  This fall is no exception with numerous large titles from all the big publishers.  With franchises like Little Big Planet, Halo, Call of Duty, and numerous music games - how are we to find the co-op games we so desperately crave?

Ahead are five co-op games in which we think you shouldn't miss this year.  When it's all over, tell us what games should have made the list that didn't.  Tell us what games that are on the list didn't deserve a spot.  If you need to know what's coming out this Fall - just hit up the co-op release calendar!

i'm definitely getting reach and probably fable 3. CoD just keeps striking out for me so i'll most likely pass on that. to be honest, i think i'm more excited about spring (with the exception of reach).

For me, its all about Reach . In my mind in this current status now leading up to the release of this game, IMO no other game can get any bigger than this juggernault

These games are all well and good (Rock Band 3 is tempting), but do any of them allow you and a buddy to pick up an opponent and slam them through a burning table?!

For me, the co-op game I'm looking forward to most this Fall will be WWE SvR 2011! I'm just hoping their online modes are finally lag-free this year.

I have to disagree with the music games and with Dead Rising 2. I have a heard a number of negative things about Dead Rising 2 so that one is off my radar. Music games just don't get me excited anymore.

I think the big game that is missing from this list is LittleBigPlanet 2. The first LBP is one of my favorite co-op games so I'm expecting to have my mind blown by the second one.

I totally agree with the other three on your list as long as COD BO has more than just zombi mode. BO is coming out in two months so why haven't they released more details by now?

I am also over CoD, I think I need a break from FPSs in general. I also just read the entry for Dead Rising, and the fact that it only saves the host is very disappointing.

At the moment the co-op game I am anticipating the most is Dungeon Defenders; I'll buy anything slightly similar to DOTA.

Did I miss a page? It's gotta be LBP2 for me. RB3 too.

I'm still on the fence with Reach. Some of the newer modes may actually convince me to play Halo multiplayer for once, but I'm not sure I want to purchase another Halo game right now.

Fable 3 itself isn't so much anticipated as much as details on it are. I still don't know if it's going to include the features I'm hoping for. And I really can't bring myself to be excited by anything Lionhead says until a reputable reviewer takes a look at it.

The group of people I play Rockband with fluctuates from 2 to 8, so anything that adds more players to the mix is awesome.

i remain skeptical as well. if they at least fix local co-op, i'll be happy. to be honest, i wasn't too upset about the henchmen thing, it was just the terrible camera in local co-op that killed it for me. i'm sure everyone else wants to see them nail online co-op though.

I'm skeptical about anything with Lionhead attached. They have never delivered on any of the games they've released since I first heard of them from Fable.

Dead Rising? Really, no saving for the host and yet it's still top 5? Hate to say it, but if I didn't know better this may have less to do with games you have to play and more about the staff's most anticipated games. Just saying there's a difference between an objective view and one where they is some biased involved. EDIT: In retrospect, after viewing the calendar there really isn't much to choose from IMO.

And last I think Call of Duty needs to release more details before anyone can really anticipate whatever the heck they are releasing. May be good, may not.

While not a PS3 gamer, I understand the mentions of Little Big Planet 2. I would also mention The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile

Editorials ARE opinion pieces. Kind of hard to create a "factual" list of games you have to play when people's opinions of said games differ. Of course this is the site's opinion.

I can't speak for others, but I left LBP2 off simply because the first game didn't grab me for the co-op. The level creation stuff was great, but the co-op grew stale really quick.

For the record, these were my top two. These games are highly anticipated for their gameplay, and they are also highly anticipated to play with my friends. Dead Rising 2 I want to play with my boyfriend, who really wants to play, but hasn't had the patience to do it on his own.

Editorials, as Nick mentioned, are opinion pieces. To be honest, everything in the gaming community is subject to opinion. This post is open to your opinion to be posted and "proved" in the comments, but bashing opinions isn't the best way to say "this is my most anticipated game." Give your opinion about why Halo is your most anticipated. It isn't mine, but it may be the best game ever in your mind.

LBP is still the best game to play with casual co-op players. At home we have played it with neighbors, siblings, kids, even my mother in law liked it and thought it was very imaginative.

The only problem was that it was very easy to kill another co-op player by leaving them offscreen. Media molecule, please fix that!!

Having praised LBP, I am still on the fence with LBP2; I may only get it if it has enough differences from its predecessor.

I think someone missed this paragraph in the article intro:

"Ahead are five co-op games in which we think you shouldn't miss this year. When it's all over, tell us what games should have made the list that didn't. Tell us what games that are on the list didn't deserve a spot. If you need to know what's coming out this Fall - just hit up the co-op release calendar!"

I don't recall any graphs or statistics being involved. Maybe the headline should have been clearer...but, really - Nick goes to all this trouble to bring unique content, and your feedback calls into question a motive that doesn't exist?

Tsk, tsk, JG. You know us better than that.

"Halo Reach" should be a blast, cant wait to blast through the campaign with some friends.

"Dead rising 2" should be fun to run around killing zombies in, though I totally agree only saving 1 persons progress is totally lame. Probably would have been better to save neither persons at that point.

"Fable 3" though it will be missing probably half of what they say it will have, so has every other Lion head game and they were still solid titles.

P.S. LBP2 should have made the list fo sho!

P.S.S. I agree with the editorial opinion thing, every site has there own opinions and views. This sites are just better than others

LBP's co-op was fun with the guys I was playing with. We were all playing couch co-op so maybe that made a difference. I could see how it would be not as fun with people of varying skill levels. When we would hit hard sections all of us would die and then one person would successfully make it through to the next checkpoint. It felt like those old platformer games where you keep dying at one spot and then your buddy says give me the controller and let me show you how to do it.

As far as Dead Rising 2 goes, has anyone been able to play a demo yet? I think the IGN guys keep saying that the game stinks but of course that is just their opinion.

I never questioned his or any staff members' motive for their choice, like they were pocketing money or something. I think I'm still reeling from the news vs. blog debate...

I have my own expectations, but I never assume there is anything but genuine intentions to discuss and share co-op news and topics.

For the record, I disliked the co-op in the original LBP, so for a "most anticipated" list, it wouldn't be on my personal radar.

For the record, this was not listed as a "news" post, it's an editorial (which, even in sanctioned national newspapers are opinion columns), and all of the "this is why Co-op is great," or "game of the year" posts on any gaming website, blog, or developer site are not news posts.

Reach I am getting for sure, Fable 3 more than likely i will pick it up around christmas time.

Dead Rising 2 fell off my list after the whole playboy thing.

I wish Gears 3 was hitting this fall I cannot wait for that.

I thought that was Mafia II. IN the Mafia II demo there are Playboy magazines from the time period. I haven't heard of Playboy in Dead Rising...

There is some sort of promotional deal with Dead Rising 2 and Playboy. Here is an article and it shows there being a PB billboard and the guy carrying one of the magazines.

Keeping it to the Fall, Reach is definite, Little Big Planet 2 is on the Radar, but not in stone yet. My biggest interests are games already on the market or games coming in the Spring 2011.
