A game that has always intrigued me by its potential is Dungeon Defenders. Using the Unreal engine and promising cross-platform, four player co-op is a good way to appeal to the Co-Opticrew. From its First Wave debut on Android to a digital release on PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade, Dungeon Defenders has awed gamers with charm and accessibility. Well...charm, anyway.

The fall hunting season is in effect here in Texas. Bow hunters litter the temperate wilderness of the Lone Star State every weekend, and come November the rifle shooters will join them. It’s an exciting time of the year for yours truly, a novice deer hunter. But until the season officially starts there are precious few ways to hold back the buck fever. Over the last three weeks or so two shooter beta programs have been launched and closed. Here are my personal impressions of the Battlefield 3 open beta (Xbox 360 version) and the Ghost Recon Online closed beta (PC).

Christian Cantamessa, co-writer/designer of several Rockstar games (including Manhunt, Manhunt 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Co-Optimus community favorite Red Dead Redemption) has signed on to direct a post-apocalyptic film - which he also co-wrote - with a very original sounding premise.

The Demolition pack for SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs drops this week, which should make some veteran SOCOM players pretty happy - it adds quite possibly the most popular team-based mode from the classic multiplayer days to SOCOM 4. Along with the announcement, however, comes news that another pack will arrive on November 1st that adds exclusively co-op content.

There's a new 320-gigabyte hard disk drive right around the corner for Xbox 360 Slim owners who'd like to upgrade their download capability. Publisher Warner Bros Interactive has appeased lore-hungry fans with some main character information and Belgian gaming site 9lives.be has gotten its hands on a boss battle trailer for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, the Snowblind Studios co-op action RPG coming November 1st.

Game studio acquisitions aren't always good news for gamers, especially when the studio in question is has enough momentum to stay afloat on its own. New parent companies can get in the way of quality product development. It's a fair reason for gamers to be gun-shy about acquisition news. Thankfully, Twisted Pixel has never led us to believe they would rather sell out than make great games.

Four-player co-op title Rayman: Origins has a lot of competition this year. Releasing this November 15th, it has to contend with the usual holiday lineup. For a cartoony side-scroller the outlook is bleak.

Forgive me a moment of self-indulging idiocy, but the first half of this Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One video evokes images from a certain partially slow-motion advertisement that ran about six years ago and is responsible - to this day - for periodically polluting my headspace with its catchy, bubbly music track.
