Salt and Sanctuary, a game heavily inspired by the exploration, combat, and hellish despair of the Souls series, first made its way to the PlayStation 4 just over two months ago. Its developer, Ska Studios, was largely unfamiliar Sony's line of consoles, what with the majority of their titles hailing from the Xbox Live Indie and Arcade marketplaces, but their debut on the system made quite the splash.
What could possibly be better than playing a nice, lengthy session of a classic 4X strategy game? Easy - playing two at the same time! Our very own Nick Puleo will attempt this very weekend to conquer two entirely separate universes and, in doing so, create the mythical 16X. Anyone can handle the four standard X's: eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate, but how will Nick cope with these added dimensions, like eXtreme handstands, The EXorcist 2, eXtra cheese, and eXploding finger guns? Only time will tell.
In anticipation of its big release next month, TT Games and Warner Bros are releasing "character vignette" videos for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These brief clips focus on just one of the title's big characters and give just a hint of the original dialogue that's been recorded by all of the actors.
We've seen teasers of the first DLC character, Alani, for Battleborn, and it looks like we won't have to wait too much longer to get a chance to play her. If you picked up the Season Pass or bought the Digital Deluxe version of the game (which included the Season Pass), you'll be able to play Alani early starting next Tuesday, May 24. For everyone else, she'll be available on May 31.
The first official mod for the Xbox One and PC versions of ARK: Survival Evolved has arrived. The "Center" map, which was designed by modder Ben Burkhart using official modding tools from Studio Wildcard, is now available for your dino-riding pleasure as a free update. What's more, you can enjoy this map with up to 100 of your friends!
Good news for all you Sword Coast Legends players out there. The free DLC, Rage of Demons, is now available on the PC. You shouldn't have to do anything special in order to access this content, it should just be added automatically. Anyone playing the title on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can look forward to this content later this year.
Folks started taking back the streets of Philadelphia when Homefront: The Revolution arrived earlier this week, and Deep Silver/Dambuster have revealed some details on what's next for the title. The good news on the co-op front is that additional missions will be added to the Resistance Mode for free.
The next round of content for Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 (titled "Trouble in Zombopolis: Part One") will arrive sometime this summer. Along with a whole litany of bug fixes and character tunings, this free update will add two new characters, a new map, and a new mini-boss battle for that area.
Patch 1.01 for Alienation dropped on the PlayStation 4 on Monday. Much of this patch involves some bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, but it also adds a couple of new features, like being able to remove cores from your guns (previously you had to scrap the thing to get them back) and forming a squad of players before heading into a mission.
Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops was a bit of a different take on the series up until that point. Rather than looking at World War II or modern combat, it delved into the secretive and conspiratorial world of clandestine operations. I've always thought that the one thing missing from our regular Monday night streams was the ability for our audience to impact the game we're playing. EKO Software and 505 Games have been thinking the same thing as they've added Twitch interaction to How to Survive 2.
The free-to-play mech shooter, HAWKEN, may be enjoying some new life on the Xbox One. A Taiwanese game rating board had a listing for the title listed 505 Games as the publisher and Reloaded Games as the developer. No release date was given for the listing, nor has their been any comment from either the publisher or developer, so this is still within the realm of a rumor for now.
