Chances are you are not alone if you haven't heard of Orion: Dino Beatdown. A budgeted PC title that was released last year, Orion is a class-based cooperative game in which you survive hordes of dinosaurs using high tech weaponry. You can team up with up to four other players online to duke it out with prehistoric monstrosities. Sounds fun and different, right? Well, sad to say, we did not enjoy the game very much at all, giving it a very low score. Certainly the game was not recommended for play. To check out our review, take a look here.

Indie PC game Orion: Dino Beatdown is a co-op shooter filled with fantastic ideas like pitting space dudes against dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the actual game had so many awkward design decisions and mistakes, it felt like the developers hadn't played a FPS game in the last five years. After debuting to scathing reviews like our own, Orion received one major update - but the PR damage had already been done. Rather than continue cooking a dead turkey, developer Spiral Game Studios has decided to start fresh (after a fashion) by releasing a sequel: Orion: Dino Beatdown - Jurassic Edition.

Several of the Co-Optimus staff were stoked for Spiral game Studios' Orion: Dino Beatdown prior to its release. Cooperative combat against carnivorous dinosaurs - how could you go wrong? Yet as Jeff Goldblum would've predicted, things did go awry at launch (presumably thanks to the fat guy from Seinfeld). The game released incredibly buggy and undercooked, prompting a necessarily harsh co-op review.

When a game presents you with a combination of dinosaurs and futuristic guns, the normal reaction is to scream in excitement while running around the room like a child. Orion Dino Beatdown had the opposite effect on me. A great premise stunted by poor design and limited scope, this budget title fails on so many levels. What should have been a five man co-op Paleozoic romp turned out to be a broken, barely playable mess.

Orion: Dino Beatdown, the co-op-centric first-person dinosaur shooter, debuts on Steam in just a few more days. To help train the next generation of dinosaur hunters, indie developer Spiral Game Studios has released one last video documentary to tease the game before its release. Orion: Dino Beatdown has a lot of things going for it - mainly dinosaurs and beatdowns. There really isn't much else I could ask for. Well, maybe some bacon and breasts, but I have yet to find the one game that can properly contain the four cornerstones of my adolescence.

Humans versus dinosaurs co-op games are almost as rare as real, live dinosaurs. There's Capcom's arcade classic Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and the most recent, slightly disappointing Turok, and that's it.
