Farewell THQ and Atari US, parting is such sweet sorrow. As these two former giants of the game developing world slip into the eternal night, what will happen to their downloadable games? If XBLA is any indication; some games will be pulled, some reduced and some not touched at all! Voltron has been delisted, Yar's Revenge and The Undergarden have been reduced, whilst Warhammer 40K: Kill Team remains untouched. Confused? You will be.
There have been a few delistings from XBLA recently as the end of the console cycle looms and companies are biting the proverbial dust. The latest game to disappear from Microsoft's download service is the 5 player co-op Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe has some new DLC for fans of the game. The "Arena of Doom" offers a survival mode that can be played cooperatively with the five robot lions. I was cleaning out my car and managed to find 240 Microsoft Points, so I ponied up the points and gave it a spin. I've got to say, I wasn't too impressed.

You may have heard that Voltron: Defender of the Universe is coming out this week. This will mean different things to different generations of gamers. For a few of us at Co-Optimus, it means "dynotherms connected, infracells up, mega thrusters are go!" That's Voltron speak for "COME AT ME BRO!" Some of us grew up watching Voltron, and it was more than one staff members' favorite cartoon from the 80's.
Is it safe to come out now? I think the holiday rush is officially over. All the big retail games made it to store shelves before the travesty that was Black Friday. The end of the year is rapidly approaching, and new releases will be few and far between. We've got two downloadable co-op titles this week. Then the backlogging begins!
Videogame fans and children of the 80's - your lives may now be complete. Or at least, I know mine is. A brand new Voltron game is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network courtesy of THQ complete with 5 player online co-op and 2 player local co-op.
If I had to pick one cartoon above all others that I adored as a kid growing up in the 80's its without a doubt Voltron: Defender of the Unvierse. It's pretty hard for me to contain my elation when I read that THQ looks to be creating a game based on the classic series to go along with new movies and a TV show created by World Event Productions - the current owner of the IP.
