NEWS 7:34 PM on 5/17/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Stop me if you've heard this before: Call of Duty DLC that has been available on the Xbox 360 for a month is now available on PS3 and PC. You have to love those timed exclusives. CoD: Black Ops 2's "Uprising" map pack includes four new multiplayer maps and a new co-operative Zombie map.

Fuse Launch Trailer and Co-Op Demo Impressions

NEWS 1:35 PM on 5/17/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

The Fuse "launch" trailer is now live. The game doesn't come out for like a week and a half so that's... weird. Why do I have the feeling there's going to be another trailer? The video offers a sliver of back story and features the prerequisite cool weapon footage and an abundance of explosions, faceless bad guys, and exploding faceless bad guys. I know, I know, it's still not Overstrike, but it looks like it has potential to be a pretty decent squad-based shooter.

Sumo Emperor Impressions

NEWS 11:00 AM on 5/16/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

The kind folks at Sumo offered to send Co-Optimus one of their giant bean bag chairs for a review. I’m an expert in leisure, so I nominated myself for the job. We've already covered the Sumo Couple, a chair designed for two, but up this time to check out was the Sumo Emperor.  I’ll admit I was disappointed when I first laid eyes on the Emperor. It wasn’t the chair itself, but the box it came in.

Thunder Wolves Rolls Onto Steam Tomorrow

NEWS 1:30 PM on 5/14/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Thunder Wolves is coming to Steam in a few short hours. This action/shooter will allow you and a co-op partner to play the roles of pilot and gunner in a variety of helicopters. We have a new gameplay trailer submitted for your approval. I have to say, I'm a little confused as to what sort of tone the developers, Most Wanted Entertainment, are going for.

Soul Sacrifice Free DLC Dates, Details, And Videos

NEWS 11:00 AM on 5/14/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

You may have seen some info on the free Soul Sacrifice DLC heading our way later this month. You may have even noticed the poster below in your local Gamestop. It's true: several new bosses have been confirmed as free DLC with eight of them having been identified.  I would have mentioned something earlier, but I've been playing the game so much I forgot to write about it. This is easily my pick up and play guilty pleasure of the year (so far). If you haven't been keeping up with your Avalon Pacts, check out the image below and get an eyeful of the grotesque monsters soon to be marked for extermination.

Borderlands 2: Krieg the Psycho Hands-On Impressions

NEWS 9:00 AM on 5/14/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Oh boy, more Borderlands 2 content! Just what I need, another reason to add to the 212 hours I've spent on Pandora - and that's NOT counting the first Borderlands. Okay, Gearbox, let's see if your hellborn, bloodlusting, maniac can tempt me back to the land of Bandits and Bullymongs. It's time to take Kreig the Psycho for a thrill kill joyride.

Co-Op Release Alert for the Week of 5.13.2013

NEWS 7:39 PM on 5/13/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Happy Monday, Co-Optimus faithful! This week we have two new co-op titles featuring choppas, shootas, and towas. Is it just me, or does it feel like the industry is kind of just kind of twiddling its thumbs until E3? At least we have the big Xbox reveal coming up... Anyway, here's what's in stores (both digital and retail) this week.

Fuse Demo Out This Week

NEWS 8:08 PM on 5/6/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

This week there's a whole lotta nothing going on. Monaco might be out on Friday, but I'll believe it when I see it. The Co-Optimus Release Calendar is woefully barren. I even checked on the status of Crimson Dragon and Blood Knights. Nah, I'm kidding. I doubt those games are ever coming out. The only new cooperative experience that will sate our need for digitized human companionship is a demo for Fuse, Insomniac's third person, class-based, super soldier shooter.

Defiance Registers 1 Million Users, New Patch Lowers Level Requirements for Co-Op Missions

NEWS 3:30 PM on 5/2/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

If you were trying to play Defiance this morning, and I know some of you were, you may have noticed the servers were down. This is a common occurrence with new MMOs. Servers get updated, patches get patched, bans get hammered. So it goes. While we won't cover every single patch and update (Trion has their own forums for that), we will let you know when something impacts the co-op play.

New Fuse Trailer Offers a Villain's Perspective, Insomniac's CEO Offers Insight on Co-Op

NEWS 3:00 PM on 5/1/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

The latest trailer for Insomniac's cooperative shooter, Fuse, allows us to see things from the Raven leaders' point of view. They're simple people, really.-simple people running a technologically advanced paramilitary organization bent on global domination. The leaders of this force are trying to capture the Fuse substance to reshape the world. Of course, their vision of this new world is one of profiteering, toppled governments, terror, and supplication.

Announcing Hellraid - A Co-Op Slasher from the Makers of Dead Island

NEWS 4:00 PM on 4/30/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Techland's "Project Hell" has officially been announced as Hellraid. They're calling it a "First Person Co-Op Slasher." Sounds good to me. Techland developed Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, so we should have an idea of how the game will play.

Star Trek Co-Op Review

Review 12:00 PM on 4/30/2013 by Andrew Gaskill

Let me save you some time. This is a bad game. I played through the whole thing, and it felt like work -no, not even work. Worse. It was like an awkward obligation you have to fulfill for an ex in front of her family. As if you promised to help her move, then dumped her. You still help her move, because you feel bad. Now you have to talk to her dad while you help him carry a lust-battered mattress up three flights of stairs. This is not how you want to spend your free time.

Andrew started gaming with a second-hand Atari 2600 and a shoe box full of dusty cartridges. He remembers playing the original Street Fighter in actual arcades and when jump-kick, sweep was best combo in a fighting game. He thinks Zelda II: The Adventures of Link was one of the most under appreciated games on the NES, and usually begins and ends his argument by screaming "Downward Thrust!"

Andrew got serious about co-op gaming while in college, pursuing his Creative Writing degree. He realized it was easier to get a novice into gaming if he was helping them and not virtually murdering their on screen persona every few seconds. He has had several real world jobs that had nothing to do with video games. He decided that was pretty lame. He now writes for the internet and is a full time Dad. His wife and main co-op gaming partner is the person who keeps his writing coherent, preventing it from becoming a cavalcade of obscure references to things he thinks everyone should know. Reading his work is scientifically proven to make you a better person.
