If your initial reaction to that headline was "I thought it already was?"... yeah...

Battleborn Will Finally Sunset In 2021

While Gearbox might be riding high right now with Borderlands 3, it wasn't that long ago that they attempted a whole new IP that didn't fare well. Development and updates for Battleborn officially ended two years ago and, honestly, I thought that the game was done around that same time. Apparently it's still been kicking around, but publisher 2K is now calling it quits and pulling the servers down... in another two years.

Some great ideas marred by a weird push into the realm of eSports

Final Update for Battleborn Dropped Last Week, Development Over

So it was that with a forum post notification of the update being available, Gearbox's Battleborn came to an end, of a sorts. The servers are still up and running, and will continue that way for at least the "foreseeable future," but content development has ended and there won't be any further balance patches.

A game divided against itself cannot stand

Future Developments for Battleborn Have Ceased, Servers Still Running

There were some great ideas and nifty mechanics within Battleborn, but, ultimately, it seems like it was not destined to be a long-running franchise for Gearbox. The lights may be on (for now), but nobody is home.

Next Battleborn Update Will Unlock All 25 Core Characters for Free

The exact future for Battleborn may be up-in-the-air, but with the next update, Gearbox and 2K are hoping to attract a few more players to the title. The big ticket item with this update is that all 25 characters in the original roster, i.e., none of the new ones that have been added over the past six months, will be unlocked for free simply by completing the Prologue.

The first Story Operation provides a fun variant on the Battleborn formula

Battleborn: "Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion" DLC Impressions

“Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion,” the first Story Operation for Battleborn , released late last week, bringing more PvE content to the game. This DLC is both the first premium as well as first PvE-focused DLC released for the game, and I think fans of the game will feel it's been worth the wait. Story Ops can be attempted with ...

First two operations this summer

Premium DLC Release Plans for Battleborn Detailed

2K has finally released some details about the paid DLC co-op missions for Battleborn. Each of these new "operations" appear to revolve around one of the game's characters and some part of their history. The first one, "Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion," will allow you to relive Attikus' recollection of the insurgency he lead against the Jennerit.
