Lost Planet 2: Extreme CustomizationOctober 20th, 2009 at 9:58 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

The subtitle for the original Lost Planet was "Extreme Condition".  For the sequel, perhaps "Extreme Customization" might be more appropriate.  Some really interesting details about Lost Planet 2's character customization have been revealed at the Capcom-Unity Blog.  All sorts of different options are available for your soldier, including weapons, abilties, and, coolest of all, nicknames.

You can choose a preference to which weapons you'll find in game.  Like the shotgun?  Set the flag, and when you find a short range weapon on the ground, it'll be a shotgun.  Maybe your co-op buddy likes flamethrowers; when he picks up a short range weapon, it'll be a flamethrower.  That's an excellent idea, and one I wish was available in more games.

Lost Planet 2 MAY Feature Couch Co-OpAugust 21st, 2009 at 3:00 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Not a couch, but close enough.

Undoubtedly the most asked for feature on our site when a game is announced is "couch co-op."  Couch Co-Op or split screen co-op allows two or more players to play in the same room on the same console with one copy of the game.  It used to be the only way to play a co-op game until online modes came around, but thankfully it's not a complete lost art.

The good news is Lost Planet 2, which features four player online co-op, could see a two player couch co-op mode before release next year.  The game's producer, Jun Takeuchi, had this to say:

Co-Optimus Staffers On The Lost Planet 2 DemoAugust 20th, 2009 at 10:13 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

That's not the right giant monster, but it'll do.

The Lost Planet 2 demo went up yesterday, and most of the Co-Optimus staff rushed home to play it as soon as possible.  Our impressions of the demo range from giddiness (me) to grumpiness (Mike) and everything in between.  We're interested to know: what are your thoughts on the demo?  Did it sell you a copy of the game?  Or save you $60?

Lost Planet 2 Demo Out Now, New Trailer is ExplosiveAugust 19th, 2009 at 11:23 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

A friendly reminder that the four player co-op demo for Lost Planet 2 is now available to download to your Xbox 360 console.  The demo is playable over Xbox Live and features a mission from the campaign and a gigantic boss battle.

After watching the new GamesCom trailer for LostPlanet 2 - I can't get home fast enough to try the demo.  Don't believe me?  Watch for yourself and be the judge.

Lost Planet 2 Demo Coming "Soon"June 29th, 2009 at 9:10 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Soon is such a vague word.  "When are you coming over?"  Soon.  When will the PlayStation 3 get a price cut?  Soon.  When can I be the most awesomest person in the whole world?  Soon.

Soon is when the Xbox 360 will be getting the four player cooperative demo for Lost Planet 2, at least according to Joystiq.  The demo is apparently complete and was played at a recent event for Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu as well as E3 2009.

With the game a few months from release, it would seem to be an odd time to release the demo this early - still - we aren't going to complain.

Breathe Easy -- Lost Planet 2 is a Timed ExclusiveJune 16th, 2009 at 11:24 AM by Jim "txshurricane" McLaughlin

Unless someone at Capcom has gone completely batty, Playstation 3 owners can expect the four-player co-op shooter Lost Planet 2 to arrive sometime after the Xbox 360 release. This has been confirmed via Sony's E3 keynote, and now by Capcom's official site.

While details are scarce at the moment, we're still excited that Capcom is making sure to extend co-op goodness to both platforms. Although we've established the Xbox 360 as 2008's most co-op friendly platform, the co-op love is being spread around the table, and that's always a good thing.

Lost Planet 2 for Playstation 3 ConfirmedJune 02nd, 2009 at 6:03 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

The rumors have been swirling about for some time, and now we know they are true.  In the Sony keynote at E3 today, Jack Tretton mentioned that Lost Planet 2 is indeed headed to the PS3.  Previously, the game was only officially confirmed for Xbox 360.  This news is not really too surprising, as the first game was eventually available for both systems, too.

In related news, Gamepro has an extensive preview of Lost Planet 2.  In particular, the specifics of the 4 player co-op gameplay are covered.  Particularly interesting are the details about the new abilities of the suits, allowing for much thermal goo carnage as you and three squadmates take down a big bug.  Check out this trailer to see what we mean.  Oh, and to my future co-op partners, see the guy who gets smacked by the giant lizards tongue, and falls into a lake?  Be warned: that's pretty much my strategy, too.

Lost Planet 2 Trailer is Co-Op CentricMay 29th, 2009 at 8:06 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Gametrailers.tv is continuing their exclusive E3 coverage, this time unleashing a brand new trailer for the four player co-op Lost Planet 2.  The trailer is entirely focused on the squad based combat of the game, and it looks to have a little something for every co-op player.

Any game that allows players to jump into giant mech suits for co-op combat against giant aliens is going to be pretty awesome in my book, but letting co-op players latch on the suit for a ride (as well as shoot) looks pretty badass as well.  The game is currently set as an Xbox 360 exclusive, but there are rumors of a PS3 and PC version coming shortly after.

Deep Customization Options for Lost Planet 2May 12th, 2009 at 12:39 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

All signs are pointing to some quality co-op action in Capcom's upcoming sequel, Lost Planet 2.  What could be better than teaming up to take down huge monsters from the inside and out?

How about doing all that, in style?  Lost Planet 2 will feature some fairly deep customization options.

"We prepared a very detailed customization system that will allow you to create your own character," said Capcom's Jun Takeuchi. "So you can create your own character and put it together in the game and you yourself become the main character of the game."

Kudos to the developers for letting players choose a unique look.  PLayers will be able to choose many different parts, including head models, body models, and backpacks.  Everything from WWI style helmets to chainmail bikinis will be available.  Though I'm sure you'll mostly see chainmail bikinis.  Because hey, chainmail bikinis!

Lost Planet 2 Co-Op is a bit like Shadow of the ColossusApril 28th, 2009 at 1:08 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Details are beginning to trickle out today about Lost Planet 2 from Capcom.  The current Xbox 360 exclusive features a four player co-op mode that numerous members of the media got to check out last week at Capcom's Captivate event.

Kotaku is bringing on the detail that big monsters play a huge role in the game as players not only work together with their teammates to bring it down from the outside, but the inside too.  It's a bit like Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2, but slightly more brutal and with friends.  This provides some interesting possibilities to the game's four player co-op mode.
