The Nintendo Switch 2 finally launched last week, and with pretty good availability to boot. The console comes with 2 Joy-Cons, a Joy-Con holder, a dock, and a charger. It does not come with proper screen protectors, a case, and other things that are nice to have for a portable system. That's where PowerA comes in. They've got three types of accessories that might just cure what ails new Switch 2 owners like me.
It could be said that Brain Seal Ltd, the developer of the Dark Quest series, is wishy-washy on co-op. Every other game is either single-player or co-op. Thankfully, the upcoming Dark Quest 4 will be one of the co-op ones. In fact, it looks like this will be the biggest and best game yet in the board game-style dungeon crawling series. A demo has recently arrived on Steam, and the game will come to both consoles and PC later this year.
Railway Empire 2 from Gaming Minds Studio and Kalypso Media is a game about trains. More importantly, it's a train game that supports 4-player online co-op. Now we're talking! And one thing about train games is that you can never have enough trains in them. Well, there will soon be more trains and more empires to build. The "Industrial Wonders" expansion is due out on June 24, and it will bring the Industrial Revolution with it.
Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase was light on big franchise updates this year, but Activision can always be relied upon to announce a new yearly Call of Duty. This year's entry is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and it looks to be a landmark installment. What's the big deal? Campaign co-op! Oh, Black Ops 7 will still have a cooperative Zombies mode, but the chance to experience the game's big-budget campaign with a friend(maybe even friends?) should be a rare treat. The last Black Ops with campaign co-op was 2015's Black Ops 3.
All the way back in 2023, Thunder Lotus Games announced 33 Immortals for Xbox and PC. The game launched in early access on March 18, but only on Xbox Series S|X consoles and Epic Game Store. What about the aging Xbox One, you ask? What about Steam? Well, one of those questions has finally been answered. As of last week, 33 Immortals is now playable on Xbox One. Hopefully those pre-SSD loading times won't affect other users!
Tribute Games might be working on this year's most anticipated beat 'em up (MARVEL Cosmic Invasion), but apparently that's not enough. The Montreal-based developer craves an even bigger piece of the pie, so they've just announced another brawler for next year: Scott Pilgrim EX. That's cool enough news on its own, but much of the talent behind the original Scott Pilgrim VS. The World: The Game will be involved. We can't complain about that!
Tribute Games struck gold with TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, a nostalgic beat 'em up that is loved by fans and critics alike. The next big project from Tribute and Dotemu is sure to find the same success: MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, another cooperative brawler that's coming out later this year. Adding to the excitement, two new characters have just been announced for Cosmic Invasion: the irascible Rocket Racoon and the sensational She-Hulk.
You know... on the one hand, the state of the world is not looking that good right now. *waves around at everything going on* And that makes us very sad. On the other hand, we as Gamers(TM) have never had it this good, not in the history of any entertainment medium. Dozens, no, HUNDREDS of titles are released each month, catering to even the smallest niche. Yes, not all of them are worth playing, but even if you filter those out, you could still play a new game only 10 minutes, move on to a new one and repeat, and I'm sure you would never run out.
Drop Point is an upcoming open world survival game from a New Zealand developer called Tiny Indie Studio. It will offer both first-person and third-person gameplay, allowing large groups of players to explore a zombie-infested island, scavenge for resources, build bases, and fend off hordes of enemies. That might sound a lot like DayZ and other games, but Drop Point has plenty of good ideas that will help it stand out when it arrives on Steam Early Access later this year.
The concept of free to play RPGs might sound a little weird, but sometimes it works. Etheria: Restart is an upcoming JRPG that draws inspiration from Genshin Impact and similar games and takes the fight to cyberspace. It will feature several modes, including a 2-player online co-op mode called "Phantom Theater." The PC version of Etheria: Restart launches on June 5.
Iron Meat is an extremely bloody run and gun shooter in the style of Contra. The Steam version of the game now has even more meat thanks to the addition of a Boss Rush mode, an Arcade mode, and new weapons and enemies. That'll keep players on their toes! The update is out today on Steam and will come to consoles in the near future as well.
Retroware makes some pretty cool games, including a stylish run-and-gun shooter called Neon Inferno and the Toxic Crusaders beat 'em up. Both games are finally coming to consoles and PC this year. Before they arrive, gamers will be able to take a fresh look via the MIX Summer Game Showcase. The showcase will broadcast footage of them on Twitch on June 3, and allow in-person demos on June 6.
