Dying Light's Hellraid DLC Impressions and Stream Recap

I'll be honest, when Hellraid was announced it was easily one of my most anticipated co-op games. Heretic and Hexen were some of my all time favorite shooters and this looked like a solid spiritual successor. Hellraid has taken a turn though, instead of a full fledged release (at least for now) - it's merely a concept in a piece of content for Dying Light. So does it scratch that itch?

Development Hellraid

Hellraid Development Halted; Devs Insist Game Not Cancelled

Last week, Hellraid developer Techland issued a blog post lamenting that their dark fantasy hack and slash game failed to meet expectations and its development was placed on hold. Resources were to be redirected to post-launch support for Dying Lighta game we liked quite a bit. That blog post, and the Hellraid official website, have since been scotched.

The Co-Op Games of 2015 Preview

2015 looks to be the first solid year in a while for co-op gamers. The Xbox One and PS4 have hit their stride and the PC continues to excel. There’s a few big games on the horizon with a strong focus on those platforms, sadly, leaving being the Xbox 360 and PS3 era. We’ve got both new IPs and old favorites making a return. Let’s d...

Smashing skeletons

[E3 2014] - Hellraid is the Game Heretic Fans have been Waiting For

I had the pleasure of growing up and witnessing first person shooters since their birth. While not hte first, DOOM ignited the genre and then spun off several other thematic games. One of my personal favorites was the Heretic and Hexen series of shooters, which took the demonic theme of DOOM and changed it into a fantasy setting. Hellraid, from developer Techland, looks and feels very much like those games - putting players into dark and gritty dungeons, swamps and forests as they take on mythical creatures.

Hellraid Gets a Next Gen Makeover Trailer

Techland is finally ready to announce their brand new engine for Hellraid, the Chrome Engine 6. Finally, the undead-brutalizing combat we all know and love can be rendered in glorious next-gen graphics. While the official release date for PC, PS4, and Xbox One is still a mystery, the four-person first person hack-and-slash is aiming for a launch on Steam's Early Access sometime this autumn.

Not just fodder anymore!

Skeleton Smarts: Enemy AI Explained in New Hellraid Trailer

The undead enthusiasts making Hellraid want you to believe in the power of skeletons to work together as a team. We are all acutely aware just how coordinated skeletons can be. That is to say, as coordinated as a bunch of shambling bones with no brains can possibly be. Or, if they do have brains, they probably aren't in any state to produce thought.

Hellraid's Combat Inspired by Real World Swordplay

Techland, the developers of the upcoming 4 player co-op hack-and-slash-a-thon Hellraid, recently spent some time brushing up on the medieval art of "hitting people with sharp things." The animators and programmers met up with ancient weapons expert ARMA-PL in an effort to provide Hellraid's combat with a greater sense of realism. "Realism" here describes what they learned about medieval weaponry, and not practicing to combat hordes of undead and demonic sorcerers.
