Diablo III Female Barbarian Revealed

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

After hearing that Diablo III would be featuring both genders for each class, we have been expecting a whirlwind of news to come pouring out. We were right. The Barbarian class has unleashed the first images of the female warrior, as well as a general profile for our enjoyment.

As a legendary warrior of our Diablo III setting, the Barbarian has to have a pretty impressive (and brutal) skill set. The female Barbarian will have such skills, with plenty of bloodshed to go with them. On her profile page you'll be able to watch a short demonstration of the following moves:

Whirlwind - Used to devastate enemies that are close together with a spinning action. Heavy weapons add to the brutality, and you'll feel wholly satisfied with the result.

Cleave - General heavy attack for the Barbarian class, cleave is handy for those one-on-one encounters.

Ground Stomp - Used to stun enemies surrounding your Barbarian, any in the shock wave range will stand dazed for several seconds while you wander around and cleave some baddies.

Leap - For far off foes that just need to be dispatched. The Barbarian can leap awfully far considering her massive size, and the enemies won't even know what hit them.

Seismic Slam - Used when enemies run toward your Barbarian in a somewhat-straight line. The enemies will be hit with a column of energy, causing sizable casualties quickly and effectively.

As we get more information about the new classes, and gender features, you can be sure we'll have it here for you. We just can't wait to play the finished version. Seriously.

I don't know if I should delve back into the mid 90s or not, but either Blizzard art was never as good as it seemed at the time or it's really going down the tubes. That looks like it was drawn by someone who had only ever seen men but had heard a description of a woman once.

<-hasn't liked anything they've done since WC2

Why do you say that? Don't like muscular women or exagerated styles?

Compared to her male counterpart she almost looks frail.

I don't object in the least to either, I just expect exaggeration to come from an understanding of form; a muscular woman is going to be woman-shaped (wide hips/narrower waist), she's going to have muscular definition all over (that arm looks cut as hell - she's smooth everywhere else). Lastly, the musculature in the arm doesn't reflect the muscles of an arm, it looks more like a burn scar. This looks like a smoothed-out drawing of a man, with only breasts (and the facial features) to define it as female. That's disappointing. It looks like it reads alright when in tiny mode on the gamescreen, but I am disappointed they didn't push the art of a main character a little further.

Back when their artists were allowed to sign their work, even a sketch showed good understanding of skeletal and muscular structure:

I think I have to agree with Borteeo -- Blizzard's older stuff wows me (pun intended? ) much more than their recent stuff does.

While this is so much better than anything I could do, and I'm not saying it's bad or anything, it just doesn't feel as good as their older stuff. (Though I will admit, while I dislike the game, some of their art from World of Warcraft is great. The landscapes, mostly.)

In my journey to catalogue the various denizens, civilizations, and fauna of our world, I have traveled far and wide, but never before have I been struck with such dismay as when standing upon the ramparts of the ancient fortress of Bastion's Keep. I came to see firsthand the barbarians, those near-legendary, immense, relentless, dual-wielding furies of combat dwelling upon their sacred Mount Arreat.
