In a day and age where developers are sometimes guilty of releasing a product and never changing it for the better, it is refreshing to see Ubisoft take a different approach with Far Cry 3. The game itself was a smashing success, moving a fairly large number of units, and enjoyed a very positive review from our site. Intent on making the experience even better, it seems the team at Ubisoft has been listening to gamers and will continue to implement changes in upcoming patches. Spotted in an official forum post, the following additions will be added.
Amazon is once again having an all videogame Gold Box event. Today only, you can get some ridiculous prices on limited quantities of videogame goodness. The all day deal (while supplies last) is Far Cry 3 on any system you choose for just $34.99. Far Cry 3 features a four player online co-op mode and 2 player couch co-op play on console - you can read our review right here.
The console version of Far Cry 3 has received a huge patch recently, fixing bugs and enhancing several feature across all game modes including single player, multiplayer and co-op. The PC version of the game has already been patched with most of these fixes. Far Cry 3 features four player online co-op and two player split-screen co-op, as well as combo co-op support on the consoles.
As if you needed a reason to go and play Far Cry 3, Ubisoft has released their latest patch, Version 1.03, the PS3 and PC versions earlier today. Xbox 360 users will have to wait a bit for it though.
Today Far Cry 3 owners on the PlayStation 3 can download the exclusive two chapter co-op campaign called High Tides for the low low price of free. The two chapters span four to five missions each and there's four character skins for Mikhail, Callum, Tisha and Leonard.
Before we all get overwhelmed by the 2013 trailer-tease that is the VGAs, I'd like to share this Far Cry 3 video with you. Ubisoft's 10 minute featurette is a great introduction to the open world game. I've dabbled in both the co-op and single player campaigns. Both are good, and very different from each other. This is also the only game that has managed to keep Borderlands 2 out of my Xbox 360 for more than two nights in a row.
Heads up gamers. See that crew of snipers from Far Cry 3's co-op mode up there? I wonder what Leonard, Tisha, Mikhail and Callum are shooting at... Could it be Xbox 360 and PC co-op aficionados? Maybe. You see, Ubisoft Massive will be launching a DLC co-op pack in January, which is awesome. But it's exclusive to the PS3 version of the game, which is lame. (Unless you pick up Far Cry 3 on the PS3, then it's still awesome.)
Little Jimmy is excited, as an early seasonal treat he has bought himself Far Cry 3 on PC, but not all is well on this cold and snowy eve. A Day 1 critical patch is required for the game to work better. Fixes include dealing with some problems in the 4 player co-op mode. Instructions on how to download the patch and what is included follow.
FarCry 3 is out next week on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game was a surprise for us at E3 earlier this year when it boasted an entirely new co-op campaign along side the game's single player campaign. While details have been scarce, today's trailer reveals the mode's four playable characters as well as some of the story.
The Far Cry series has always pushed computers to their brink, generating some truly impressive visuals that rival even Crysis back in the day. Ubisoft have revealed the system requirements for Far Cry 3, including the minimum, recommended and the OMG LOOK WHAT MY COMPUTER DOES setting.
We were surprised as you were when Ubisoft announced a co-op mode for Far Cry 3 at last June's E3. I actually got some hands-on time with the co-op demo, and I was very impressed with the game. This isn't a tacked-on survival mode or simple add-on for a feature checklist. It's a pretty ambitious mode which features explosive, action packed gameplay.
When game historians look back on the year 2012, it won't be remembered for all of the quality titles coming out, or even that it's a transition year spent in anticipation of new hardware launches. No, it will be remembered as the year that all of the triple-A titles got delayed - often until 2013. Far Cry 3 is now part of the club, as its original release date of September 4th has been pushed to December 4th in the U.S.
After we ran our Far Cry 3 preview from E3, I noted the Co-Optimus community had some very good questions. Game developers don't hand out business cards at E3 for nothing! I passed along a few questions to Massive's Ditte Deenfeldt, the designer of Far Cry 3's co-op campaign.
I was wandering around Ubisoft's crowded E3 booth, trying to figure out how I was going to cover Far Cry 3's recently announced co-op mode. I was approached by a nice young woman who asked me if I had played the game. I told her I hadn't, and before I could bat my eyelashes she said she recognized the "Co-Optimus" name on my badge. She then informed me that she designed the co-op mode in Far Cry 3 and would very much like for me to play it.
Ubisoft just announced at the Sony Press Conference that Far Cry 3 will have 4 player co-op. A group of four friends will be able to play through a dedicated co-operative campaign that will contain a totally separate experience than the single player. Grab your guns and sun tan lotion because we're going to take this island back.
