It's kind of hard for me to believe it, but Magicka (the quirky, and hilarious, craft-your-own-spell RPG) turns two next week. Time certainly flies. To celebrate, Paradox is offering not only a free weekend for gamers, but also free DLC for players who already own the game. During this weekend, you'll be able to download and play the game for absolutely free. It's currently available on Steam, and the free play will extend until Sunday 1pm PDT. The game is also discounted down to $2.49 from $10 until Monday.
Magicka was released almost two years ago and despite a troubled launch the game got solid reviews and then a steady stream of both free and premium DLC. Today the game continues to get content to keep folks coming back for the four player co-op spell weaving mayhem. The new content is called Dungeons & Daemons and looks to be themed in the realm of dungeon crawlers with plenty of dark underground passages and of course...barrels. Also included with the content are new monsters and obstacles.
The robed wizards of Magicka will not be attending San Diego Comic Con. They had a run in with a Necromancer from their "Other Side of the Coin" DLC. The following video may be the last we see of the mustard wizard. As you can see from the images above and below, the video is not lacking in the ball-gag and gold-trimmed...
Remember that one time in Magicka, when you accidentally killed everyone? Get ready to do a lot more of that. New DLC launches today. Embrace your evil side in "The Other Side of the Coin." This evil expansion allows you to play as Alucart and his Necromancer lackeys. Your mission is to make life miserable for humans, dwarves, and elves. Sounds simple enough. Watch the evil-doers in the following video.
Are you sick of playing as a good guy wizard who is constantly killing his own friends (accidentally)? Why not play as a bad guy vampire and kill everything, including your own Necromancers (sort-of accidentally)? A new Magicka content pack will give you that opportunity. "The Other Side of the Coin" will let you turn your deadly magic upon puny humans, repugnant dwarves, and tree-hugging elves. Bring a friend or three and set the world on fire. Or freeze it. Or whatever. It's your choice.
While people could have stuck around a bit longer during our recent Co-Op Night (bunch of sleepy heads!), Magicka continues to be one of the more popular games on Steam. The DLC alone has sold over 4 million pieces on top of the main game's 1.3 million sales (I'm sure the Steam holiday sale prices didn't hurt). Naturally, Swedish
fish developer Paradox Inreractive is following up with another expansion: 'The Other Side of the Coin.' The twist: it lets players take on the role of the bad guys for a change. That's all I need to know - I've been wanting to beat up on the robed do-gooders for a while now.
Are you looking to add a little Magick to your in-game life? If so, join us this Friday, January 13th at 8PM Central, for a co-op romp through the world of Magicka. If Steam didn't force-feed you this game yet, you should really consider picking it up before Friday. This $10 title earned a score of 4.5/5 and a runner-up position in our 2011 Co-Op Game of the Year Awards, so you can be sure it is well worth the purchase.
If you're like many of us here at Co-Optimus, you can't get enough Magicka. Or maybe you got enough, moved onto something else, and decided you wanted more. Then I've got some good news for you! "The Stars Are Left" DLC is available on Steam right now for $5.99. You can see all of the details on it right here. Or you can just treat yourself to a nice Magicka bundle for $24.99. It includes the game as well as a plethora of DLC.
Magicka has received a massive engine overhaul today in anticipation of the next piece of DLC for the game called "The Stars are Left." The update to the game incorporates numerous fixes and improvements making it a much more enjoyable experience. The biggest change? We finally have a proper checkpoint system that lets you save and resume from making the campaign a little bit more managable.
Paradox have announced a new piece of downloadable content for the four player co-op PC game, Magicka. Titled "The Stars are Left," this new DLC is inspired by many Lovecraft-ian mythos including Cthulhu. They also promise to make fun of other crafts and I'm not talking about basket weaving. The main feature of this DLC is a brand new adventure campaign.
Magicka has been out for quite some time, but the game is still as fun as ever. While its launch window woes included almost daily patches to get the game running, it has been slightly longer since the game received an update. Today the game has received a huge update adding, fixing and tweaking over 70 items.
Arrowhead Games have announced the next piece of Magicka DLC, this time its a small update to the game adding a new character model and two new weapons with a Japanese theme.
Magicka's sales have been strong enough to conjure up a sequel. In a recent interview with Joystiq.com, publisher Paradox Interactive dished the dirt on the game's sales numbers. Magicka "sold over 30,000 copies in the first 24 hours" of it's release. The five dollar "Vietnam" expansion pack, which moved the game setting from a fantasy realm to the Vietnam war (Seriously!) has reportedly sold "well over 100,000" units. This comes as no surprise to us. We really liked the game, giving it a 4.5 out of 5 in our Co-Op Review.
It looks like Arrowhead Games has two more pieces of DLC lined up for Magicka after Magicka: Vietnam. Titled Caverns and Marshlands these two challenge maps put players in brand new environments for slaying enemies with their co-op pals. The Caverns map is said to be focused on trolls with an "appetite for wizards" while the Marshlands map is focused on zombies.
When developer Arrowhead Games revealed that their first piece of premium DLC would be a Vietnam War themed pack of content - most of the gaming world couldn't believe it. But anyone who has played the game knows, its exactly what to expect in the world of Magicka.
