If you've played Left 4 Dead 2 and reached the finale of the first campaign, Dead Center, then you know all about Jimmy Gibbs Jr.
"He's only the greatest stock car racer of our generation... read a book sometime!" says Ellis during the finale's intro. And while we may have hoped that Mr Gibbs found a way out of the apocalypse and made it to safety, it seems that isn't the case. An enterprising modder has found a zombie model for Gibbs available for unlocking.

You know those really annoying kid show characters, The Teletubbies? They're these brightly colored, billowing, and loud creatures that squeal and talk like a bunch of cracked out unicorns. And they need to die.
Now you can do that thanks to the latest Left 4 Dead PC mod called Teletubbies 4 Dead. I think the video says it all. Four player co-op Teletubby slaughtering. Ahhhhh...yeah.

While ArmA II has a built in mission editor, it limits to exactly what you can do. Sure you can place players, enemies, objects and waypoints - but what you can't do is use your own models, characters or story. That's all changed though as Bohemia Interactive has released a full suite of mod tools for the PC co-op title.

What's that you say? House of the Dead, Left 4 Dead, and CoD World At War don't quite scratch your zombie itch? We've got just the game for you. Killing Floor is a total conversion for Unreal Tournament 2004. Here's the description of the game from developer Tripwire's forums:
Tripwire Interactive is proud to announce Killing Floor, due for release over Steam in the near future. Killing Floor is a first-person co-op survival horror, set in and around London after a mad scientist’s “specimens” have broken loose and gone on the rampage.
Big Ben and braaaiiiiinsss? Sounds like a winner. In addition to offline single player, up to six players can co-op through the streets of London, blowing zombies away in unison. Killing Floor is coming to Steam "in the near future". We'll be sure to keep you posted!

To those of you looking for a more involving experience from the PC version of stellar co-op title Left 4 Dead: Nvidia is using our favorite PETZ offender to showcase their newly-available 3D gaming technology.
While this is very cool and indicative of Nvidia's impeccable taste in games...it's also very expensive. Thankfully, Ars Technica shows us how to take advantage of a hack that allows you to use your Super Bowl XLIII 3D glasses in conjunction with a graphics trick. Et voila! Three-dimensional Boomer slime will now seemingly enter your living room. (Think that's weird? Let a Hunter dive at you now!)

I have no idea where this image came from, but it's cool.
Want to make Left 4 Dead PC assault you with more infected hordes, less boss infected, near-impossible difficulty, and zero AI or co-op players?
Of course not! Which is why modder Doku caught our attention this week: the realism mod that Doku has cooked up adds more realistic recoil and health, and essentially turns Left 4 Dead's "infected" into classic zombies by making them slower and immune to all but headshots. Unfortunately, it also seeks to scare the player by removing AI and human teammates from the campaign.
Naturally, this is cause for outrage here at Co-Optimus, but before we light our torches and sharpen the pitchforks, we'd like to know what you think. Have you tried the mod? Does it interest you at all?

Say what you will about some of Treyarch's past endeavors, but there's no denying that given a robust game engine and art assets, even a hit-or-miss developer can make a solid game.
Now you can have access, too!
Graceful as ever, Treyarch is putting free mod tools in the hands of PC World at War players. The download clocks in at 1.1 GB at Fileshack, available at no charge to registered users (registration is free, also).
Maybe now we can get a mod that lets you save your local co-op game...

The original Half-Life set the bar in so many ways for the first person shooter genre when it launched over 10 years ago. One of the things missing though was co-op play. And while there's plenty of mods that add this to Valve's classic, this brand new remake looks extremely promising.
The total conversion is a complete remake of the Black Mesa facility, the famous first level of Half-Life 1. The only thing required to play will be a copy of ANY source engine game - like Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, and others. The mod not only offers some slick visuals with brand new textures, but will sport a cooperative mode built in. There's no word on how many players will be supported.
For now, drool over the first trailer posted after the break.

If you listened to the latest Co-Opticast, you'll know that one of the things I talked about was the expandability of Left 4 Dead, specifically in the case of "zombie scenarios." I talked about the fact we'd probably see a Dead Rising style mall, and sure enough, there's one already in the works based on the Dawn of the Dead mall.
Website L4DMods.com will be the exclusive home of the map, one that's actually been in the works for fives years. The creator promises the map will be ready REAL soon. I can already see the hordes of zombies flowing out of the Gap in their tight jeans.
