From January to December, you could be busy playing some fantastic games alongside your friends. 2009 looks to continue that trend, with intriguing titles like Resident Evil 5, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Halo Wars, and many more on schedule for release this year. During Microsoft's CES press conference, President of Entertainment and Devices Division for Microsoft Robbie Bach, announced that Halo Wars would receive a demo on February 5th. Of course he said "Bungie" was going to make it available, not Ensemble. Oops.

This was true for me, since I got some quality time with one of my favorite co-op games. This game is great for family togetherness and unity. I’m speaking of course about Left 4 Dead. There’s nothing like a zombie apocalypse to bring family together.
The slightly burnt folks over at CrispyGamer have a two part preview up covering some playtime through Resident Evil 5. Done co-op style, the preview talks about each person's perspective in their own going battle against zombies, zombies with flaming arrows, zombies with bags on their heads, and of course zombie dogs.
As the new year continues to roll on, we inch ever closer to another co-op RTS, Dawn of War 2. The developers have released the official system requirements for the game, and all in all it doesn't look like you'll need a million hamster to run this thing. Any ol Intel Core 2 Duo processor or AMD 64 4400+ processor is recommended, as well as a Nvidia 7800 or ATI X1900 class video card. And those are the recommended requirements, not even the minimum.

Lets face it, this economy sucks. Further evidence has occurred this evening as Ziff-Davis has sold off their online gaming network 1UP to Hearst Corp, owners of the UGO network of sites. While nothing is officially confirmed yet, it appears 1UP.com is going away, as is all the podcasts. Several of the staff members use Twitter (as do we) and have made it know that they are laid off.
Not all of Left 4 Dead's visual effects are as apparent as the above comparison between an early-version screenshot and the subsequent final build screenshot of the same alley. Just the same, you'd be surprised at the amount of innovative detail that was put into Left 4 Dead's dynamic lighting alone.
I'll admit, the name was the first thing that caught my eye when this press release came across my desk. But it was the four player drop-in/drop-out co-op that really got me interested in this title from upstart developer Semnant Studios.
