The Public Test Server actually went live last week on the PC (and PC only), but Ubisoft slowly added more content and features to it over the course of that week, so now's a good time to get in and check everything out. The "Expeditions," in particular, sound pretty interesting. Here's how Ubisoft describes them:

Ubisoft Outlines The Next Year Of Free Content For The Division 2Enoch Starnes

A recent blog post outlined just what players can expect from the next three free expansions.  Let's take a look at the trailer first, and then we'll dive into some more specifics.

The 8 player raid adds a new "pinnacle" activity to Ubisoft's loot shooter, giving all the dedicated Division 2 players something new to do, and more relaxed players a "someday, maybe" goal. The raid promises new and unique challenges for the players as the bosses have "the most exotic mechanics and technology you've ever faced." Similar to other games with raids, those bosses will offer unique gear to players that beat them, and there's also an exotic weapon to be won. It's worth noting that you'll have to bring in your own squad of 8 for this as, unlike much of the rest of the game, matchmaking isn't supported.

When The Division first launched, one of the bigger issues was the lack of content once you made your way through the campaign. Over time and with several updates, patches, and DLC, Ubisoft greatly expanded upon everything and the game ended up in a pretty good place. Based on what we've played so far of The Division 2, it seems like many of those improvements and enhancements were implemented in to the sequel so it starts well and will, ideally, only get even better. We haven't made it through all the campaign stuff into the "endgame," where apparently the really good stuff is, but the title makes a very good first impression.

TD2 has already undergone two Closed Betas, both of which offered a limited amount of content, but this Open Beta will widen the scope quite a bit in order to allow both newcomers and past participants to experience a sizable portion of the game.  Specifically, the Open Beta will have three main missions, five optional side missions, and a Dark Zone, among other things.  Check out the graphic below for more details:

Fortunately for them, Ubisoft has revealed a new trailer detailing The Division 2's endgame content.  Per the developers, the game was made with an "endgame-first" mentality to ensure that players would always have fresh content available once they've conquered the campaign.  This has resulted in additional challenges, three more specializations (each with their own progression system), and raids.  As per the current genre standard, more content will come in the year(s) after launch, but Ubisoft definitely appears to have learned from the mistakes made during the launch of the original Division.

There's an official sign up page over on the Division 2 website where you can sign in with your Uplay account and then click a button to enter for your chance to get an invite. Your guaranteed way to get in is to pre-order the game, which they will oh so kindly point out, but informed decisions are the best decisions so, personally, I say roll the dice to see if just signing up gets you in before tossing down $60.

It's interesting to see Ubisoft apply what is, essentially, their Rainbow 6 Siege model to other games. When the game was revealed a couple months ago during E3, it was awesome to hear that they had three content updates planned throughout the first year of the game's life, and that each of those would be free. In a way, then, it shouldn't be too surprising that they followed that up with a way for some players to get access to that content (along with a few other bonus goodies) before others as that announcement seemed a bit too good to be true. Creating new content and maintaining a game via balance updates is not cheap or easy, so certainly Ubisoft would need to generate some kind of revenue from the game post-launch to make that happen. With this, they're just shifting that to an initial up-front cost. It has been working for Rainbow 6 Siege, so why not The Division 2?

While The Division did have a bit of a rocky start, both Ubisoft and Massive committed to improving the game over the course of the past two years and are still updating it and patching it to this day. So, based on what was said during the press conference today, it sounds like the development team has been paying a lot of attention to player feedback and putting that directly into The Division 2. They specifically called out the work they've put into creating a meaningful endgame for players, stating:
