MOAR OF THAT SEAL, PLZ!

Co-Optimus Exclusive - The Making of Trine 4's Art and Story

Frozenbyte's cooperative, puzzle-platformer series, Trine, has gone through its fair share of changes and innovations over the past 10 years; some good, some not so good. The forthcoming Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is poised to be the best one yet as it returns to its 2.5D roots, increases the co-op player count from three to four, implements some valuable lessons learned from previous games, and somehow manages to have even more gorgeous visuals than before. Producer Modus Games and Frozenbyte have been detailing what's been going into the latest entry in a series of "Making Of" videos and today, they've shared the newest one with us.

The Lords of Hell will have their hands full against you and your allies

Diablo III Console Screens and Video Shows off Co-Op in Action

We now know that Diablo 3 will be hitting consoles on Sept. 3, and that the game will support local, online, and combo co-op. While we've heard some mention of the latter, we have yet to see it in action... until now. From their command console at E3 [Ed. Note: I'm assuming they have a command console], Blizzard has released a slew of screens of the game running on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. They've also released a video that shows off friends playing together, whether they're local, online, or both!

You can't keep a good Double Dragon down.

Double Dragon II Launches on XBLA This Friday. Check Out Our Exclusive Preview!

It’s hard to believe that nearly two years ago, I wrote the first exclusive preview of Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons for Co-Optimus. A 3D remake of the classic Double Dragon II arcade game, it seemed destined to revive the historic beat-em-up franchise after years of inactivity. Korean game developer Gravity Co, Ltd. and publisher Barunson Creative Co Ltd. understood the series’ importance in the gaming landscape and found the second game’s story most exciting, hence their decision to remake it for modern audiences.

In the aftermath of their Kickstarter, Cadenza finds a new avenue for release

Retrovirus Alpha Available Through Gamestop

Not every Kickstarter campaign sees it way to fruition. Such was the case, sadly, for Cadenza Interactive and their six-degrees-of-freedom cooperative shooter, Retrovirus. For some of these campaigns, that's the end of things - the game/movie/album/book will never be and the people involved move on to the next thing. For Cadenza, it was simply time to move on to the next plan. As Dylan Barker told us when we spoke to him last month just prior to the campaign's conclusion, Cadenza had some other plans in place to help see them through should the worst occur. Turns out, those plans were to find a major distributor.

No Open Beta for M-Rated Twisted Metal

Twisted Metal is fondly remembered by many a classic gaming fan.  The upcoming revival of the series is bringing the over-the-top action to the modern console era.  This time around, Twisted Metal's trademark violence has apparently been ramped up considerably, as evidenced by the screenshot above.  In fact, one scene in the opening cinematic was so disturbing that it earned Twisted Metal an 'M' rating. Designer David Jaffe indicated that they were fine with the more lax rating because "without blood, it felt a little weird, frankly."
