Death, lots and lots of death

Co-Op Classics Video Edition: NES Tale

The NES is arguably the greatest video game system of all time. Nintendo's first home console saved the video game industry, and most gamers look back on the system fondly. Recently, I sat down and played through some of my favorite NES games with my son, and recorded the experience for lucky Co-Optimus viewers. In my happy memories, I somehow didn't remember the games being quite this way...

A Virus Named Tom Offers Valentine's Pre-Order Bonus

It's Valentine's Day this week and that means the perfect opportunity for some couples gaming.  The folks at Misfits Attic have launched a pre-order promotion to celebrate such an occasion for their four player co-op puzzler, A Virus Named TOM.  Basically you can pre-order the game for 50% off, a lowly $5, and if they reach a total of 50 pre-orders, every pre-order will get a bonus copy of the game for free!  Also included is beta access and a high score contest.

Our Weekend in Gaming - Strange African Virus Edition

I've been knocked down for the count with some sort of strange African virus this week and it sounds like Mike has contracted it as well.  Perhaps, just to be safe, you avoid playing any games in co-op with either of us.  The rest of the staff, those healthy bastards, will be enjoying plenty of gaming this weekend.

Why an open world makes co-op better

The Open World is Scary - Bring Backup

A million billion years ago (OK, more like 2008), I wrote an article about open world co-op games and their overall awesomeness. The examples I used were Crackdown and GTA IV, but the list wasn’t a long one to choose from at the time, though Mercenaries 2 and Saints Row 2 came out around the time of the article and didn’t get a fair mention. Well, it’s been four years. Have the co-op gods been good to open world fans?

But will it make up for Star Trek D-A-C?

Star Trek Movie Game Coming Early 2013 from Namco Bandai

2009's awesome Star Trek reboot film received a decidely un-spectacular and barely related downloadable videogame tie-in: Star Trek D-A-C. Thankfully, when the sequel film rolls around in 2013 it will be accompanied by a much more substantial game at retail, which currently goes by the daring title Star Trek. Namco Bandai has officially picked up the publishing rights and announced it for a first-quarter 2013 release.
