Brace yourself, the release date for PixelJunk Shooter 2 has snuck up on us all. It looks like we’ll be ready to get our puzzle co-op together on March 1st. That’s just over 2 weeks for those curious. Sure, the much-anticipated sequel has been bounced around for quite some time since being officially announced last May, but it’s official this time.
Apparently everyone is just about caught up on their backlogs, as this months Co-optimus Community Voice blog topic seems to have quieted down a bit after just one post. If you’ve been playing a game from last year at any point, hit up our blogs section and write a backlog blog. MrMcJerk has, and I'm sure he'll tell you it's great fun.
The MMO playing model has moved away from a lot of the pay-to-play aspect - that is to say, they’ve been largely moving away from the monthly subscription fee. Instead it looks like games like the upcoming Age of Empires Online will only cost money if you really want that premium experience. Players of a casual persuasion and the hardcore crowd will be able to play together to complete the games co-op quests in an MMO/RTS environment, all without restriction.
It seems the majority of the staff is hooked on Magicka and with good reason. There's just something addictive about its co-op action and spell weaving - and something satisfying about exploding trolls into tiny bits. Also shrubberies.
Demon's Souls was an unapologetically tough game. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki promises that Its spiritual successor, Dark Souls, won't be any easier. One thing that may be different, however, is the game's co-op potential. For those of you who haven't had the chance to play Demon's Souls, the game had a unique co-op mode. At certain points within the levels players could summon other players into their game to help them out if they were stuck at a particularly tricky spot. The summoned players would have to have previously flagged themselves in order to be able to be sucked in to another person's world and would appear as ghostly heroes. They would have to be within 10 levels of the host player. From a single-player perspective, this system could be pretty cool. From a co-op perspective, it was an absolute nightmare. The game was not set up so that friends could easily play together - that wasn't the point of this unique co-op mode.
Paradox Interactive, publishers of recent co-op hit game Magicka, have just announced their lineup for the Game Developers Conference which takes place February 28th through March 4th in San Francisco. Among the list of game's they plan on showing is something new for Magicka, a game simply titled Magicka "Surprise"

TravelersTales has announced its next set of LEGO’s with the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides game, to be released in May of 2011. MTVMultiplayer went a little hands-on with this beauty of a game and brings back the goods for us to savour before the titles release.
There has been a bit of buzz about the co-op action headed for the Playstation 3 in the form of Playstation Move Heroes, but not so much in the form of a story. Now we have a trailer complete with dialog, character interaction between Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly and Bentley, and a glimpse at the motivation for these characters in the same game.
As gamers we sure seem to know what we want after a game has been chewed and digested in our game systems, don’t we? It doesn’t happen often, but in the case of the upcoming fantasy sequel Fable 4 we get to drop our opinionated two cents in ahead of time, by rating the series it belongs to. In the hopes of having the best possible community pleasing game, Lionhead Studios has released a brief survey that wants to know what they did right for Fable 3 - including the use of co-op, to possibly carry on to a sequel.
Hunted: The Demon's Forge has managed to stay on our radar since it was announced almost a year ago. A few trailers have shown glimpses into the world of Hunted. Our co-op interview with developer inXile Entertainment's Brian Fargo and Maxx Kaufman offered more insight into the gameplay and co-op dynamics. The two player online co-op title has been dubbed a fantasy Gears of War, due to its cover system and other game mechanics. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. For fans of Gears, swords and sorcery, and armor bikinis, this is a great thing. This latest trailer has plenty of gameplay footage, and even a little humor.
Today is the day the music died. Activision has dissolved the Guitar Hero business unit within its company, laying off almost 500 employees and effectively ending the franchise...for now. This decision affects both the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero games as well as all future DLC. New songs will stopped being added to both games after this month.
