Dead Island has sold 5,000,000 copies. By my math that's like, a gillion double-dead zombies. I don't know how many severed limbs that would be. All of them? Obviously Deep Silver is very pleased so much so that they sent out a press release patting themselves on the back. I would too. Dead Island is a damn fine cooperative zombie survival game. It earned our Editor's Choice award in our Co-Op Review.
People must really love Dead Island, because they’ve already been playing it for over 6,500 years, cumulatively of course. We have cooperative gameplay to thank for that.
Deep Silver have announced a sequel to one of last year's greatest co-op games, Dead Island. The new game is called Dead Island Riptide and it's in development for PC and consoles by TechLand. Other than that we have absolutely no other details about the game, but the publisher promises a lot more details this summer. We're guessing the big reveal will be at Gamescom in Germany later this year. Obviously because of the late reveal, don't expect the game to be available this year, but instead move it into an already crowded 2013.
The Dead Island Game of the Year edition has been confirmed for a summer release. This should come as a surprise to few, as the re-release was outed but the UK ratings board earlier this month. The four player action RPG was one of our favorite co-op games from last year, earning 5 out of 5 in our Co-Op Review, as well as our Editor's Choice Award. Yeah, we liked it.
The sharp-eyed dinosaurs of Siliconera have spotted a hot new re-release for one of our favorite titles from 2011. The Dead Island: GOTY edition has been outed by the UK ratings board. I went to the ESRB and British Board of Film Classification and found no such listing, but the dinos got a fancy screenshot, and really, who would lie about such a thing?
Today only, you can snag Dead Island on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 for only $25. This GoldBox deal features one of our favorite games from last year for less than half the retail price. It's a game we awarded the best of E3 2011 as well as an Editor's Choice, so for $25, it's quite a steal.
Crap. This is very disappointing. The new Dead Island DLC, "Ryder White's Campaign," will be a single-player-only affair. The new add-on will allow you to experience the zombie disaster of Banoi as, you guessed it, Ryder White. If you haven't finished the game, you may not know too much about Colonel White. Let's just say he's another survivor of the undead outbreak and he's trying to help the four survivors from the game's main story line.
It's almost Christmas and the temperatures are getting colder. What better way to escape the Winter blues than go to an island paradise. There's one catch - this island paradise is filled with zombies. Dead Island is available today on Steam for the low price of just $20, or better yet, if you can muster up a group of co-op cohorts you can snag the 4 pack for $60 - that's just $15 each.
Today Deep Silver announced a special Christmas Promotion for the excellent four player co-op survival title, Dead Island. I don't really know what dismembering reanimated corpses has to do with Christmas, but let's just go with it. They recently launched a new website that will have some sort of macabre daily calender offering up new contests that will allow gamers to explore Dead Island, "putting their knowledge of both the game and international zombie lore in general to the test." I have no idea how this is going to work, but I'm curious.
How's it going, Banoi veterans? Dead Island's long awaited Bloodbath Arena DLC recently infected digital marketplaces, and today we've got our gameplay impressions for you. The Bloodbath Arena offers new challenges for up to four co-op players in four arenas of varying difficulties. It's a pretty standard survival mode, with some Dead Island twists.
Open your pre-ordered copy of your new game and take out the scratch card. Behold the free DLC (or access to online), everyone is a winner. Except for people who bought the game second hand; no free DLC for you (no free online access!). Even when you get a freebie, they sometimes take an age to arrive; Space Marine's Exterminatus mode, and Dead Island's Bloodbath DLC are two examples. Techland have finally announced the date for the Bloodbath - 22nd November, let's hope it does not slip again ...
Changes are coming to Dead Island. A new patch for consoles is scheduled to go live for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions this week. Highlights include a level cap increase to 60, new blueprints for weapon mods, and New Game Plus "improvements." Low lights include, well, there's only one; "kick ability balanced, now requires stamina." What the hell? When I played the demo at E3 the developers accentuated the fact that kicking didn't use stamina. Weird. You can see all of the patch details after the break.
Techland recently filed a trademark for the title "Dead World." Cool titles get trademarked all the time, so what's the big deal? I'll tell you: Techland is the publisher of Dead Island, and that is a big deal. Dead Island is one of Co-Optimus' favorite titles of 2011, with its open world(-ish) gameplay, brutal melee combat, and most importantly, its four player online co-op. The game has done very well, so a sequel seems inevitable. Hopefully Dead World will have a smoother launch. If it's anything like its predecessor, the debut trailer is going to be awesome.
Have you somehow not picked up Dead Island yet? What the heck is wrong with you? I have it on good authority that this is one of the best co-op titles of the year. So what are you waiting for? A sale? Well you're in luck! You can buy Dead Island on the Xbox 360 or PS3 for the low, low price of $40 bucks right now on Amazon! You can get the PC version for $30! It's an Halloween miracle! There's even additional DLC coming out next month! Make sure you use this link, and help support Co-Optimus!
Dead Island has received a major patch on the PC, fixing numerous bugs including the dreaded save corruption issue, random freezes in four player co-op, and added an option to disable voice chat in co-op games. There's a whole host of fixes in place, which hopefully means, the team is going full steam ahead on the survival mode DLC which is expected next month.
