During this January's CES, iiRcade announced a line of upgraded home arcade cabinets. These new cabinets would run the game games but feature a height and form factor closer to classic arcade cabinets, genuine Sanwa parts, updated speaker grills and sound, and JBL audio. At last, iiRcade is ready to announce the specific name and models of the new home arcade cabinets. They will be called iiRcade Gold Edition cabinets, and four different designs are now available to preorder.

The appeal of the iiRcade home arcade console is that it mixes the experience and form factor of an arcade cabinet with the console-like ability to buy and download games. The iiRcade platform will soon resemble modern consoles even more closely in features when online multiplayer (including co-op!) comes to all retro games on iiRcade early next year.

With the recent Black Friday sale (which actually lasts the rest of the year), I finally grabbed an iiRcade home arcade cabinet. As with any arcade cabinet intended for home use, some assembly is required. To provide an idea of what the assembly process and final product are like, we've got impressions and photos.

The home arcade cabinet business consists of several manufacturers with differing approaches, such as Arcade1Up's 3/4-scale replicas of classic cabinets like X-Men and Terminator 2. iiRcade, on the other hand, sells a home arcade cabinet that features a larger 19-inch screen and a digital storefront with both classic arcade and modern indie games. During the Black Friday Sale that starts today, iiRcade home arcade consoles are on sale for $200 off.

We're going a bit old school today, as we heard that the original Double Dragon title on NES is now available on the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console! Now, how fast can you score 50,000 points?

It's time once more for a video edition of Co-Op Classics. Today, we are in beat-'em-up mode, with two great examples of this teamwork-heavy genre. Double Dragon is arguably the most influential brawler of all time. Knights of the Round is a solid, flavorful offering from Capcom's heyday.

Everything old is new again, it seems.  Retro remakes are all the rage right now, and with so many different systems to release on, anyone can have easy access to the classics of yesteryear.  One such vintage powerhouse coming to a phone near you is Double Dragon.  If you're not familiar with Double Dragon, stop what you are doing and read the Co-Op Classics article covering it; it's one of the most influential games of all time, particularly from a co-op standpoint.  A few years back, Billy and Jimmy made their way onto XBLA, and next month, they're headed to iOS devices.

It's one of the most influential video games of all time.  Two brothers.  A kidnapped heroine.  A trek to the distant lair of an evil overlord.  The description might fit Super Mario Brothers, and that game is excellent, for sure.  But this is Co-Optimus, and only co-op will do.  We're talking about Double Dragon, a game that is synonymous with co-op; indeed, for many people, it was the first co-op game they ever played.  We'll take a closer look at this genre-defining brawler for this week's installment of Co-Op Classics.
