Love 'em or hate 'em, Avatars are here to stay.  If you have to pick a very Nintendo-like animated persona, you may as well customize it, making it your very own.  Avatar Awards are one of the cooler ways to do this; earning certain achievements unlocks clothes and accessories for your 'toon self.  'Splosion Man did it first, and it looks like Left 4 Dead 2 is the next game to feature Avatar Awards.

The Left 4 Dead 2 achievements have been revealed, and with them comes confirmation of yesterday's rumor of the last two campaigns and their names.  In total there are 50 achievements with 33 of them being specific to the game's co-op mode.  

Be warned, some people might consider what the achievements reveal a spoiler, so read at your own risk.  But I'll go out on a limb here and spoil a small one.  Everyone is going to want to get the "Honk a Clowns Nose 10 Times" achievement, and I know I plan on honking it with a samurai sword - what about you?

Playlogic just sent over the achievement and trophy list for their upcoming four player co-op game, Fairytale Fights.  From what we've seen so far of it, the game is a brutal and violent take on classic children's fairytales complete with over the top humor.  

With achievements that count the gallons of blood spilled, the distance skated on blood, and many others, there's plenty to entertain.  We only spot 3 co-op specific achievements, those awarded for finishing the game with friends on the three difficulties, but all of them can be earned in co-op.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 achievements have just hit the interwebs, almost two months before the game's release.  There's a total of 50 Achievements to be had, with over half of them supporting the game's co-op mode called Special Ops.

Be warned the single player achievements may spill the beans on the story, but the special ops ones, which we posted below, are light on the spoilers.  You have all your standard "kill X guys with this gun" type of thing, as well as achievements based on the number of stars earned in the 23 missions themselves.

I swear I saw that achievement list somewhere - maybe this kiosk will help!

Xbox 360 gamers tend to appreciate their achievements - a score reward to share with the world after a hard days work. We personally love when you are rewarded for working together, and Borderlands made sure Co-op gamers reap the achievement score benefits.

Many of Borderlands achievements seem to be neutral co-op or single player, such as the general rewards for defeating a number of enemies in a certain way. However, these co-op specific achievements make playing together that much more enticing.

With the inclusion of an online co-op mode in this years Madden game, comes the inclusion of co-op Achievements.  Interestingly enough, the PlayStation 3 trophies for the game are entirely different and none are co-op specific.

The good news for gamerscore lovers are the three achievements total 165 points total, and with the exception of one of them - should be fairly easy to complete.

Yeah, you know these guys love Horde mode too.

You've probably been busy revisiting Gears of War 2 lately, given the new update and "All Fronts" map pack released recently.  As is becoming more and more common lately, there are a bundle of additional achievements with the DLC.  The new achievements raise the maximum you can earn up to a whopping 1750 gamerscore points.  Playing through "Road to Ruin", the bonus chapter, in co-op will net you 50 points, plus an additional 25 if you replay it in the opposite style (stealth vs. guns blazing).  The majority of the remaining achievements are all related to perennial favorite Horde mode!  The achievements are tied to specific maps from the new content, and also to your multiplayer level, which, you'll recall, you can now earn XP for in Horde mode.  Look us up if you're online and trying to get these new cheevies!

EA Sports has made a big deal about Madden NFL 2010's new online co-op mode.  It appears though that EA's other big football game this year will also feature cooperative play, at least if the official achievement list is anything to go by.

360Sync.com has gotten a hold of NCAA 2010's achievements and according to most of them - well according to most of them you can't get them in the game's co-op mode.

Jar the ball loose with a User-Controlled Hit Stick tackle (excludes co-op).

In fact we count over half of the achievements are tagged with an "(excludes co-op)" description.  The really sad part?  There doesn't seem to be any co-op specific achievements.  Ah well, perhaps next year.

Yeah, it's tasteless, but at least on topic!

Achievements are one of the most innovative features of games for this generation of consoles.  Hearkening back to the old arcade days when you had to play just one more time to see your name on the high score list, achievements add play value to games.  Maybe you're gamerscore isn't up to snuff, though, and you are looking for some co-op games to keep the achievement points rolling in?
