Online co-op sputters and dies, if it ever really lived in the first place.

Nintendo to Pull Wii and DS Online Services in May

Get in your last few rounds of online Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart DS, because on May 20, Nintendo is handing its Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service a pair of cement shoes. This means matchmaking, leaderboards and online play for over 400 Wii and DS games will cease to exist, forcing players around the world to sit with people in person to play last-gen multiplayer games.

Phantasy Star Online 2 to Bring Monster Hunting to North America and Europe

Phantasy Star Online was probably the first online multiplayer action-RPG for consoles. Thousands of SEGA Dreamcast and GameCube players enjoyed teaming up as hunters on the harsh alien planet of Ragol. Phantasy Star Universe, Zero, and Portable have since followed, but a true sequel has long remained as elusive as a blue rappy... Until now. SEGA has officially confirmed Phantasy Star Online 2 will see a western release! Several variables - such as whether both the PC and Vita versions will be brought over - remain unknown, but we do have an announcement trailer and screenshots to share with you today.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Coming to Vita, Will Suck Hours of Your Life Away

The Playstation Portable Phantasy Star Portable games were pretty great, but multiplayer was restricted to local wireless, making it difficult for most of us to enjoy co-op questing together. Besides, they were based on Phantasy Star Universe, and everybody who's anybody likes the original Phantasy Star Online better. Good news for the cool kids then, because not only is SEGA making a real Phantasy Star Online 2, but it's coming to the Playstation Vita!

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Out Now

One game that managed to slip under our radar, most likely thanks to the 200 Million Dollar juggernaut Halo Reach blocking its path, is Phantasy Star Portable 2.  Both games were actually released on the same day.  The sequel to the first Phantasy Star Portable title, PSP2 fixes one huge problem we had with the original PlayStation Portable title - online play.  The original title only feature local wireless play while the sequel supports full four player co-op via the internet.
