SuperMassive Games, best known for Until Dawn, teamed up with publisher Bandai Namco last year and announced a new anthology of titles that would be in that same "interactive drama horror" genre. The full anthology is referred to as "The Dark Pictures Anthology" and the first of these, Man of Medan, is slated for a release at the end of August, and it was recently revealed that the game will feature two different co-op modes to enjoy with friends.
A few weeks ago, we hopped into the "Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary" DLC that was released for Borderlands 2. The DLC acts as a bridge between the end of Borderlands 2 and the forthcoming Borderlands 3. As we played, we noted that while the looting and shooting is still pretty fun, the game definitely feels like a title released seven years ago and hoped there would be some quality-of-life changes for the next entry in the series. First teased during a Nintendo Direct a few months ago, Stranger Things 3: The Game has received an official launch trailer to accompany the release of the game and the third season of the show. While the show is a Netflix exclusive, the game can be found on the Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
When Earth Defense Force 5 launched on PlayStation 4 last year, PC gamers immediately began to ask when the game would be coming to Steam. The previous two EDF games, Earth Defense Force 4.1 and Wing Diver the Shooter, both arrived on PC after first launching on Sony’s console, after all. The development team at Ubisoft has put up an early build of the forthcoming "Episode 1" content - which adds some new loot, two new missions, and a new gameplay mode titled "Expeditions" - and you can play through all of that for the next 24 hours.
Perhaps one of the most well-known and classic entries in the "co-op beat 'em up" genre is River City Ransom, which was originally released over 30 years ago on the Famicon/NES. That game was actually the third in the (now) long-running "River City" (or, "Kunio-Kun") series and all these years later, it's getting what feels like a sequel in the form of River City Girls. The twist? Rather than playing as "Alex" (Kunio) and "Ryan" (Riki) who set out across the city to rescue their girlfriends, you play as Kyoko and Misako (the girlfriends) and set out to rescue your boyfriends.
