There are some genuinely good changes here, too bad they don't apply to Arcade

New Progression Model Coming for Star Wars Battlefront II's Multiplayer

Months after its release and the whole loot crate fiasco, EA has announced their plans for revising the progression and loot system for Star Wars: Battlefront II. The good news is that they're removing any kind of gameplay affecting items (such as the Star Cards that impact your class abilities and gear) from the loot crates and making them cosmetic items only. The bad news? None of these changes apply to the co-op Arcade mode.

Platform-specific heroes getting added

Super Bomberman R Headed to PS4, Xbox One, and PC This June

Super Bomberman R will celebrated one year on the Nintendo Switch a couple weeks ago, and today, Konami announced that the title will be making its way to the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 this summer. Each platform will be getting their own unique hero (Ratchet for PS4, the P-Body bot from Portal 2 for PC, and Master Chief for Xbox One), so you can drop bombs as your favorite character from another game.

Adding online co-op functionality is a great move

Enjoy Many Classic Co-Op Titles in Forthcoming SEGA Genesis Classics

Initially revealed in a tweet that got pulled down (and then, eventually, reposted), SEGA officially announced that they'll be bringing 50 classic Genesis titles to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this May in a new collection. The SEGA Genesis Classics will not only include a number of great titles from that era, but the ability to play with friends no matter where they may be.

It's time to get German up in this farm.

Farming Simulator 17 Is Getting ROPA Machines

Step aside, non-simulator games.  It's time for some news about games that aren't afraid to show you what it's like in the real world.  These games see the mundane nature of reality and say, "That's just how it is.  Deal with it."  They don't try to butter you up with "high scores" and "experience points".  No way.  They deal with real (virtual) issues and make you handle real (virtual) consequences.

State of Decay 2 Getting Collector's Edition With Goodies, No Game

I was fan of the original State of Decay and the way it implemented loot-runs with survival and permadeath mechanics. The only thing missing from it was co-op, which the sequel will happily rectify. As I excited as I am to play it, the announcement of a "Collector's Edition" this morning gave me a bit of a pause. Not so much because of what's included, but specifically what's EXCLUDED - a copy of the game.

Xbox friends, or PS4 friends... you must decide!

Xbox One and PC/Mac Cross-Play Support Coming for Fortnite: Save the World

Over the weekend, Epic announced that cross-play and cross-progression support would be added to the Xbox One version at some point of Fortnite: Save the World (PvE co-op) and Fortnite: Battle Royale (PvP) to allow those players to team up with friends on the PC/Mac. While this means that those players will now be able to team up with PS4 players OR Xbox One players when taking on the husks, there is still no cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One.

Sad Days For The Happiest Of Wars

Happy Wars PC And 360 To Shut Down In 2018

ToyLogic has announced that Happy Wars will be shutting down on both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms on December 17th, 2018. Unfortunately, Happy Wars does not appear to be part of Xbox Backwards Compatibility, meaning anyone who wants to continue fighting will either have to re-purchase it for the Xbox One, or hope that Microsoft adds the game to their lineup before December.

Beta? Soft Launch? Full Title?

SoulWorker Releases Into Beta Phase

Lion Games Co. Ltd. kicked off a free beta of their newest title, SoulWorker, on February 26th. The title is posted as a Free-To-Play MMO (although Rock Paper Shotgun’s time in game didn’t convey that). The game posting has a number of features that will be available “at launch,” but since this is a beta, it appears as though more content will continue to be added. What the timeframe is for that content, or what it will entail, has not been mentioned.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Verminators

The Co-Opticrew is taking some time this weekend for a little early Spring Cleaning.  Specifically, we'll be cleaning hordes of talking rats out of the gutters and alleyways of the Old World in Vermintide 2.  It's a tough job, but luckily, we stopped by our local hardware store and grabbed a few new pyromancy spells and various bludgeoning tools.  Those should help do the trick.
