Dodge bullets and shoot up enemies with a friend in Thunder Dragon 2, Orius, and Gunnail

Arcade Archives Brings Three Co-op Shmups to Switch and PlayStation

Hamster Corporation has made a name for itself in recent years by releasing no-frills arcade ports on PlayStation and Switch. Poor Xbox only gets Hamster's Neo Geo ports. In the last couple of months, Hamster has unleashed not one, not two, but three cooperative shoot 'em ups on Switch and PlayStation as part of its Arcade Archives series. Thunder Dragon 2 and Gunnail are vertically scrolling shmups, whereas the Konami classic, Orius, is a horizontal scroller.

That's one small step for a ball, one giant leap for ballkind.

Bang-On Balls: Chronicles Gets Huge Space Race Level

Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, the ball-themed 3D platformer from Exit Plan Games, has been available on Steam Early Access for a while now. Updates have seen the addition of new co-op minigames and huge campaign levels. The latest level, "Race to Space," is based on the real-life space race between the USA and the Soviet Union in the 1950s and 60s. It's an absolutely massive level with lots for co-op and solo players to bang on about.

Splinter Playable in TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Coming to Xbox and PlayStation

Fans of beat ‘em ups and the Ninja Turtles alike have been hotly anticipating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge since its announcement last year. That excitement was mixed with trepidation, though, because the game was only announced for Switch and PC up until now. Now, publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games have finally confirmed that Shredder’s Revenge will come to Xbox and PlayStation as well. Not only that, but the Turtles’ master, Splinter, will be playable for the first time in a videogame. Cowabunga!

Prepare to snipe hordes of the undead on the go with friends.

Zombie Army 4 Heading to Switch in April with Bonus Content

The Nintendo Switch might be less powerful than current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles (not to mention the previous generation), but that hasn’t stopped intrepid developers from porting the occasional large-scale game to Nintendo’s portable console. UK-based Rebellion Software has already released impressive versions of Strange Brigade and the Sniper Elite series on Switch, and now they’ve got another shooter in the works. Zombie Army 4: Dead War will arrive on Switch this April, complete with 4-player online co-op and the Season Pass One DLC bundled for free.

Our impressions of parkour zombies part 2

Dying Light 2: Stay Human Co-Op Stream Recap and Review

We've had preview builds of Dying Light 2 for a few weeks now, a few of us have put 8-10 hours into the game already. But we weren't able to play co-op until the day before release so a proper review couldn't be ready for the launch. That said we've now dug in and come back with some impressions and a stream recap.

A fine collection, but the co-op game isn\'t much to write home about.

Space Invaders Forever Co-op Review

Since the debut of the original game in 1978, Space Invaders has remained one of Taito’s most beloved franchises. The series has seen numerous sequels and collections, including Space Invaders Invincible Collection for Nintendo Switch. That compilation is a Switch exclusive, but PlayStation players haven’t been left entirely high and dr...

Don't clown on this lesser-known co-op beat 'em up.

Ninja Clowns, From the Makers of Time Killers, Comes to iiRcade

iiRcade is a home arcade cabinet for which users can legally buy and download a variety of classic arcade games and modern indie games. Some of these arcade classics are well-known, while others are more obscure. Today's release of Ninja Clowns definitely falls under the obscure category. Originally released to arcades by Strata (the Time ...

Co-op kaiju battles coming soon to consoles and PC

WayForward Unleashes Dawn of the Monsters Details Ahead of March Release

WayForward, the studio behind River City Girls and the Shantae series, is teaming up with fellow indie developer, 13AM Games (makers of Runbow), on a monster-themed beat 'em up. Dawn of the Monsters looks like a spiritual successor to the classic Neo Geo series, King of the Monsters, and will feature 2-player local co-op. Kaiju fans won't have much longer to wait, thankfully, because Dawn of the Monsters is due to release on consoles and PC next month.

Elden Ring. Elden Ring? Elden Ring!

Co-Op Monthly Round-Up for January 2022

For many the most important piece of news in January was the long-awaited announcement that Elden Ring has gone gold. It will hit store shelves on February 25 as planned (with a day one patch) and many will rejoice. There is of course a world beyond From Software games. Shocking, I know but it saw for example the Early Access release of The Anacrusis this month as well as the release of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction. Spelunky 2, on the other hand, finally hit Xbox consoles, while Deep Rock Galactic celebrated its PlayStation debut. PC gamers got the newly released Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem as well as the newest game from French strategy games developer Eugen Systems, called WARNO. Time for some good old comp-stomp action until the co-op campaign drops!
