Team up with a buddy to fend off the hordes of Hyboria

Conan Unconquered Arrives Later This Month With a Co-Op Mode

Funcom and Petroglyph have teamed up to create a different kind of Conan the Barbarian. Rather than run around as a naked man or woman hacking-and-slashing your enemies (and other players) to death, they've opted to go in a more strategic direction. Conan Unconquered is a "survival" RTS where you (and a buddy, if you like) have to build a stronghold and an army to defend it from wave after wave of enemies.

We can finally ignore the common good.

Next Stardew Valley Update Will Allow Separate Cash In Co-Op

We've all been there.  You spend hour upon hour toiling away in the fields, mines, and rivers of Pelican Town, only for your "teammate" to hop on down to the local hat emporium and spend all your hard-earned cash in one fell swoop.  That'd be pretty infuriating in any game, but even moreso in Stardew Valley, a game focused around planning and (mostly) not being frivolous.

Subtle Xbox Tease Is No More Than A Tease

Halo 5 Will Not Have Split-Screen Added

In a recent video promotion for the new all-digital Xbox One S, Microsoft showed off a sliver of split-screen gameplay for Halo 5, as the video’s audio states “They were playing Halo in conference room 4-B,” despite the title not supporting that particular feature. After this story broke, Community Manager Brian Jarrard of 343 Studios took to Twitter and wiped up the speculation in a tweet saying; “Sorry to disappoint but no, splitscreen isn’t being added to Halo 5. The footage in question looks to be a little bit of good old fashioned creative liberty in the editing bay.”

Pirates are well-known for being the "high minds of the high seas"

Sea of Thieves' Anniversary Update Brings Co-Op Puzzle Solving

Rare's open-world piratical adventure game, Sea of Thieves, turned one year old last month, and to celebrate the occasion (a month later) they've released their free "Anniversary Update" today. This brings a few new additions, such as a dedicated PvP area and a new faction to earn rep with, but it also adds something that we, personally, have been waiting to see: co-op driven experiences.

Promise of no microtransactions within the game

Eden Rising Launches Next Month With A F2P Option

Nvizzio Creation's third-person action/tower-defense title, Eden Rising: Supremacy, will be making its way out of Early Access and into a full release next month. When it does, there will be two versions: the free-to-play "Explorer Edition," and the $25 "Ascendant Edition." The paid version does include four additional areas to explore and defend over the free version, along with some extra armor dyes and "Bestiary Mastery," but it also has a nice perk. Only one person needs to buy it for a group of friends to enjoy that that extra content.

Full release next Spring, but plenty of reasons to keep checking in

Risk of Rain 2's Early Access "Forecast" Looks Good

We eagerly hopped into Hopoo's Risk of Rain 2 when it hit Early Access last month, and have been equally eager to hear what the developer's plans are for getting this thing to a full release. Today, Hopoo and Gearbox revealed the development roadmap of what will be added to the game and, roughly, when, leading up to the full release sometime next Spring.

Our Weekend In Gaming: Full House

My shaming tactics worked!  Practically the entire Co-Opticrew is here for the latest edition of Weekend in Gaming, and we've got some gosh darn plans lined up for this gosh darn weekend.  I love seeing these full lists of plans, primarily because it shows the breadth of possibilities for co-op gaming.  Whether you and your friends like shooting aliens in space, shooting aliens with loot, or even shooting aliens on Earth, there's almost certainly a game out there for your alien decimation needs.

The Full Package Swings Onto the Switch May 10th

Saints Row: The Third Comes To Nintendo Switch Next Month

Saints Row the Third may be an 8 year old game, but since that didn’t stop Skyrim from making its way to Nintendo’s most recent console, why should the Sixth Street Saints let it stop them? They shouldn’t and they won’t, so Saints Row the Third will come to Nintendo Switch May 11th. This will be the “Full Package” edition, which includes all of the DLC and all new “couch” co-op, which is something we here at Co-optimus are very excited about.

No new timeframe given...

Anthem's Whole Content Roadmap is Now Delayed

BioWare has been working to fix Anthem ever since its rocky launch a couple months ago, but the writing may now be on the wall for the third-person shooter. In a Reddit post on Tuesday, the Lead Producer and Head of Live Services wrote about the current state of the game with the release of the latest patch, which did add a new Stronghold and some needed QoL improvements, and also where things are headed. The short answer: nowhere fast.

Starlink Is Getting Lots Of New Content At The End Of April

Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Ubisoft's sci-fi action title, has been available on consoles since October of last year.  While it initially featured some optional toys-to-life elements, the developers recently confirmed that portion of the game is being discontinued.  Fortunately, though, that doesn't mean Starlink is done getting new content.  Not even close.

And everybody thought "The Duke" was a big controller...

Enjoy Classic Capcom Arcade Games in Your Home

Everybody's getting into the "classic games on a little box" game these days. Nintendo has the NES Classic and SNES Classic, Sega is releasing the Genesis Mini this Fall (we're waiting for the full list of games to be revealed so we know just how many co-op titles it will have), and last week, Capcom revealed that it's getting into the retro game market, too, with its "Capcom Home Arcade" console/controller.
