God of War IV Rumored to Have Co-Op

It's Twenty Twelve, the future is now, and the rumors are flying!  The fact that God of War IV is happening should come as a surprise to no one.  Game franchises never die so long as they're popular profitable (sorry, Shenmue).  I don't care how may Greek gods you kill off or how little sense it makes, Kratos is coming back.

Ready to Stretch Your Legs? Dance Central 2 DLC on Sale Again This Week

The Xbox Live Deal of the Week that kicks off today features tons of Dance Central 2 downloadable content. Sure, it's an identical repeat of last October's sale, but Microsoft and Harmonix are surely banking on many new players thanks to Black Friday sales and Christmas gifts. Do you need this DLC? DC2 has plenty of songs on-disc to keep Kinect gamers busy - 45, to be precise. Still, part of the fun of music games in general is being able to play to your favorite songs (or at least more of them), so it wouldn't hurt to pick up a song pack or two.

CCV Blog Wrap-up December 2011

December is a great time to pick your game of the year since everything is still fresh in your head. That's why we've been writing about them for this month's Co-Optimus Community Voices. We heard from two members a couple weeks ago, and we also heard what the staff and community voted for, but we have to members left who would like their voices heard.

Rumor: Epic Mickey 2 to Debut in 2012 with 2-player Co-op

If Warren Spector’s Epic Mickey did one thing wrong, it was appearing exclusively on the Wii console. That made it essentially unavailable (or at least unappealing) to at least two-thirds of the videogame buying public. We at Co-Optimus might also suggest that it should have been a co-op game. Now don’t get too excited, but if a recent rumor/leak is to be believed, both of those issues will be rectified in the sequel, Epic Mickey 2. The game has yet to be officially announced, but it’s looking like a sure bet.

Our Weekend in Gaming - Happy New Year 2012 Edition

Welp folks, this is it. It's been a good run but this weekend turns the year 2012 and that means it's the end of the world.  It's been fun and all that, but I don't think I'm going to be able to finish my backlog in time for the apocalypse.  It looks like most of the staff will be doing it's best to celebrate our impending demise though.

A co-op gem from the dawn of the video game era

Co-Op Classics: Rip Off

One of my greatest pleasures is reading about the classic arcade titles from the Golden Age of video games, from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Unfortunately, cooperative gameplay, which we love so much here at Co-Optimus, was largely absent from games of this time period. In the latter half of the 80s, the co-op floodgates would open, but before then, teamwork was incredibly rare. Today, we'll look at a very early and unique example of co-op, from way back in 1980: Rip Off.

BattleBlock Theater Offers More Prisoner, Gameplay Videos

Developer The Behemoth has been churning out new  BattleBlock Theater prisoner profile videos for a few months now.  We've already included some of the inmates in several previous posts, but it appears there's no rest for the wicked, and even less rest for those falsely imprisoned and then forced to perform bizarre plays/battles "for a bunch of deranged cats."

Twisted Metal First Run Editions Grant Access to Twisted Metal: Black

David Jaffe, Co-Director of Twisted Metal and founder of Eat Sleep Play, took some time out of his busy day to make a special video announcement to fans of the vehicle combat series.  Gamers who get first printings of Twisted Metal (2012) will also receive a voucher/coupon for a free copy of Twisted Metal: Black.  Yay, free bonus game!  In case you didn't know, TM: Black has two player split screen co-op throughout the entire campaign.

The 2011 Co-Op Game of the Year Awards

2011 was an incredible year for co-op gamers. We saw 100s of releases of co-op games. When we started this site, co-op was barely a bullet point on the back of a box, now it’s a standard feature in many AAA titles. After sifting through all the titles we've weighed in, discussed and voted on our favorites for the year. Here are is the 4th Annual Co-Op Game of the Year Awards.
