It burns our soul...and time.

Our Weekend in Gaming - A Darkening of Souls Edition

There is a plague that has infested the Co-Optimus staff, and its name is Dark Souls.  It sucks the time out of our daily lives and taunts you with the promises of "rewards" only to be greeted with a death screen...over and over again.  All isn't lost though - many of the staff don't fall for Dark Souls's false promises and instead are dipping into something a little more friendly.

A Black Ops 2 Zombies Fan Film for your Friday Viewing Pleasure

We get tips from time to time for fan films based on popular co-op video game franchises.  Sometimes the efforts are pretty amateur, though admirable, and other times they are simply slick.  This fan film based on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's zombies mode falls towards the latter.  The film by Jason Rosete features three agents on a mysterious island on some sort of mission - only to discover the island is infested with glowing eyed zombies.  Time to team up (co-op) and kick some zombie butt.

A competitive take on co-op?

Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 Loses Local Co-Op, Gains Team Battle Mode

The first Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage was an alright-ish brawler that was good enough for many fans of the franchise. It featured super powered martial artists from the popular manga series, following their bloody adventures as they literally punched and kicked their enemies (and each other) into bloody chunks. Out of all the licensed games I have ever played, it's definitely one of them. The game supported a two player split screen mode that left our reviewer, the esteemed Marc Allie, wanting more. The sequel, Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2, has upped the co-op ante with online support, but is has lost local play in the process.

New Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailer Kicks Xeno Ass

Aliens: Colonial Marines has a kick ass new trailer out today. It's actually called "Aliens: Colonial Marines - Kick Ass Trailer." Damn, Gearbox, I just got used to typing "badass" in each and every one of our Borderlands 2 stories. Now you're going to go and change it up on me? Anyway, this trailer is all sorts of kick ass. I think. I have mixed feelings on this one. Why don't you check it out and let us know what you think?

Omerta: City of Gangsters Out on February 12th with 2 Co-Op Modes

Omerta: City of Gangsters has gone gold and will be available on the Xbox 360 and PC on February 12th.  The turn based strategy game is being developed by Haemimont Games, who also developed Tropico 3 and co-op game The First Templar.  The game takes place in a 1920s Atlantic City with the player taking the role of an immigrant working his way up the criminal hierarchy.  The single player campaign is said to offer over 15 hours of content through a historically accurate Atlantic City on 20 different maps.  There's no word if Enoch Johnson (aka Nucky Thompson) plays a part in the game, but we gotta hope for at least one cameo, right?

Booooom! Latest Army of 2: Devil's Cartel Trailer Explodes onto the Net

Another week, another Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel trailer.  This could only mean one of two things; either someone at Visceral Games has too much time on their hands and is producing loads of trailers, or the game must be ready for release pretty soon.  Let's assumes that it is the latter as this 2 player co-op title will grace the PS3 and 360 from the 26th of March.
